American Top Team has made Nunes a fearsome fighter. I disliked her massively , probably because she got those 2 decisions against Valentina, but the more I watch her and the more I listen to her post fight interviews, I realise just how well prepared she is for any fight, physically , mentally, tactically.

Being a fan of traditional stand up fighters like JJ, Valentina.etc, I wanted to see GDR to showcase her striking skills. She did that in a couple of moments but was taken care of by being so easy to take down. Nunes was unsympathetic in the post fight presser.......... 6 Years to learn how to defend a takedown. She was better in her takedown defence in the first fight.........(speaking of GDR).

Impressed that someone who is widely regarded as the top female MMA fighter can be so humble and willing to learn to adapt to different opponents. She pretty much admitted GDR is a better striker than herself.

...longer, she's being doing this for many, many years, it's difficult.
.to stand with her...

But like Amanda said. ..... it's an MMA fight. Trained all camp how to get the double leg. Took her down and nullified her opponent.

In the end it was hardly a contest, annoyingly.

More fighters could do with adopting her attitude and all round skills.
Only Valentina can compete with her at this moment in time.

Her ground game is atrocious

Too long fighters like GDR have been able to get away with just doing what they're good at and winning fights in MMA. Nothing wrong with that of course, but if you want to win a title against someone like Nunes, fighting with a limited toolbox, then good fecking luck. Immediately you're at a disadvantage. Less ways to adapt and win.

this dude amanda is a beast

She's like 40 years old and prospered at the top of the division. It says a lot about the division.

Plus you would expect the champion by default to have a well rounded game.

I'm a fan of GDR's striking. It's a sight to behold. She has the reach and length to execute truly beautiful offence.

In these days of MMA, you need to have a well rounded base. Should not be expected only at the top.

Ultimately, its frustration talking when I made this thread, because I was salivating in hopeful anticipation of a GDR masterclass and what I got was Nunes taking GDR down like she was a child. Each round same thing. MMA Vs kickboxing and MMA won.

GDR with the UFC 1 level takedown defense. Nunes will win this matchup 90% of the time.

amanda is great but she is also full of shit. She made up some BS in that post fight interview about wanting to show her ground game and wanted to prove she could go 25 minutes like this was her intention the entire fight.

She downplayed that GDR tooled the shit out of her 99% of the fight they were standing and didn't really credit GDR for any difficulties she had in the fight.

Also, her excess use of "guys" is annoying as fuck.. That said, she is unquestionably the greatest women's mixed martial artist ever.

Interesting you say that because I got the opposite. She acknowledged GDR's striking prowess and said they trained to take her down because that was the route to victory. We know from her other fights, she stays standing if she can beat you standing.

Agree that part of the presser about going the distance is retrospective bullshit. She would have finished the fight before 25 mins if she could.

She was very critical of GDRs TDD. Most fighters would just compliment their opponent and bask in the glory, but Nunes did GDR a favour or any other aspiring female MMA athlete. You can't neglect any fundamental to the sport (eg grappling) . In doing that she probably felt disrespected thinking about it.
You come here to the Octagon and expect to beat me without learning how to defend a takedown???

Lol if she said that it’s almost as hilarious as it is delusional.

It wasn't mma vs kickboxing, it was mma fight, and you could see GDR has atrocious TDD. In kickboxing GDR would mop the floor with Nunes and it wasn't secret before fight. Kickboxers coming to mma because it's better money than kickboxing or muay thai, otherwise you would not see GDR, Joanna, Shevchenko's and Adesanya or Saki (total failure here, but he came for money) inside octagon.
And I have no clue where is glory to beat someone without groundgame via groundgame, I would say GDR's TDD was question mark before fight, but was really surprised how bad it was.

That's my point exactly. It was an MMA fight but GDR didn't bring basic MMA skills. You can't expect to beat Nunes without at least half decent TDD. Nunes for all her status prepared for GDR and targeted what she knew was going to be her weakness.....ATT got it completely correct.

For some reason someone with no TDD skills, was able to be in championship fights twice in UFC, I would prefer to not continue this topic. GDR being better striker than Nunes was not some secret before fight only someone brainwashed by UFC PR machine could think like that and I don't think ATT coaches are blinded by UFC hype machine. Nunes is black belt BJJ and is part of heavy grappling camp, yet was LnP white belt for 5 rounds. I don't see any genius here, because all you need is to not believe some hype.

GDR training with Abdulmanop for a year would be world champion

She WAS a world champion of course before she vacated her belt.
I take your point though! It would be super exciting to see her develop as she has the potential to be GOAT level. I say that but she is 35 so its highly unlikely. She probably retire soon I'm guessing.

Think it was the best 2 women fighters in the world fighting last night (I think GDR would beat Valentina) and Amanda came out on top.

GDR is a problem for any female on the feet.

I reckon Valentina would take her down with the same venom as Nunes. Unlike most specialist kickboxers, she can grapple with the best of them and is super strong.

Maybe. GDR use to fight at 145 and would have a lot of size on Valentina I would think. Holm had problems taking GDR down at 145.

Would be a good fight. Sucks the only interesting fights for Valentina are a weight class above or below the one she holds a belt at.
