Though for all that, the first few UFC's were enough to get people interested. MMA basically didn't exist in North America before that (trust me, I was around). UFC 1 got the audience for MMA from zero to a few hundred thousand (video stores -- before most people's time now) carried tapes of it, and a lot of people rented them.
