1. Some fighters passed away especially boxers. 36minutes of only punching is brutal.
2. Lot of fighters have injuries after long fights or brutal training camp where cardio is the most important thing.
3. They are too worried about cardio instead of technics and skills progress.
4. There are less combat sports fans. Long fights are boring (most of them) cause of stalling, feeling out process and too long fans are boring, waste of time for busier fans.
5. Street fights are short - seconds max few minutes not over half hour

Pro boxing fights - 12x3min and should be 6x3min
K1 / muay thai - all should be 3x3min, 5 rounds its too much
Mma - all should be 3x5min,5 rounds in MMA is Just stupid idea.

Fighting is a sport of endurance. If you are not willing to give it your all, dont fight.

Fighters often die in boxing not just because the fights are so long, but also because boxers are again and again allowed to continue fighting after being dropped.
If you're getting dropped by huge bomb in MMA, it's almost always all over.

If a boxer gets knocked out cold in the 1st round and his head smashes off the canvas then the same thing would happen. Sadly deaths in boxing have happened in totally different rounds, some have been round 1 and 2, some middle rounds, some later rounds 11 and 12. There is no pattern, fights being made shorter won't change it, its totally at random and 99% of the time its when the fighters head hits the canvas hard, its rare to have deaths with just a KO punch , its normally most of the time when the back of their head smashes on the floor, its so dangerous.

If all deaths in combat sports were in later rounds then you have a good point, but they are not... they happen in all different rounds, very random.

Their heads hitting the floor is the biggest cause, rather than the blow. It always seems that way from the ones I have seen in over 35 years watching combat sports

eventually a league will come along where fans vote after every round if they want the fight to continue and fighters get paid by the round

that should do it

1. It's fighting - people are, ultimately, meant to die while fighting.
2. It's fighting. People get injured. That's the point of fighting. People get injured doing dishes too, though.
3. Cardio is a huge part of fighting, you're not always able to kill an opponent within a minute.
4. Short fights can be as boring as long ones. Imagine a wrestler taking down a striker, laying on top of him/her for 5 minutes - and that's a wrap ....
5. street fights are oftentimes short cuz at least one of the participants sucks, is drunk, has no cardio or gets suckerpunched.

I'd honestly have been fine with non title fight main events staying 3 rounds.

never thought of it until now, but do you know if the floor of a boxing ring is harder than the mat in MMA cage/ring? maybe the MMA floor is a little softer b/c of the grappling, and that makes some difference. just a thought

1. They are pro fighters not a gladiators.

2. They are getting injured more often because fights are too long and trainings camps are too brutal. Fighters are focus more about stamina than skills. Exhausted body=weak body, injury is more possible.

3. Yes it is and if you have to fight 3x 5minutes high pace fight its only for pro athletes. Sherdogers cant fight even 3x1minutes rounds. 15minutes in enough time to finish your opponent.

4. Lol. So its better to lnp 25min than 15min? Shorter fights are better fight cause pro fighters are not too worried about cardio and they all about to finish.

5. Street fights are all about knockout.

Most of you have 0 experience in any kind of fighting. If you think 6x3min boxing, 3x3min k1/muay thai and 3x5min MMA is not long enough you are crazy.

All fights in all sports should be 1 round, no timelimit.

Nah. 3*3 minutes is perfect. All the pacing makes it boring.

No matter how you put it, we're watching people fighting for their lives, figuratively speaking. And we like people to be killed, figuratively. That's why we like finishes, be that by KO or submission. No one prefers a decission win.

It would probably be healthier with shorter fights. But fighting isn't supposed to be healthy. It's supposed to be killing or be killed. There's no way around this.

You gonna get shit for your post.
Sherbros love 5 round zombie mode fights.
I prefer 3 rounders where fighters doesnt need to conserve energy, they are fresh etc.
