Could a 7' person with good athleticism and a 60" reach be good at HW?

What if the tallest guy of all time had the athleticism of an NBA 7'er. But he also had the shortest reach of all time. He'd be a t-rex with t-rex arms. Could he be good at HW or would he be crushed?

It would propably be hard for him to make weight, but than again he has only half his arms, so maybe...

He obv would be crushed.

OR
What if the guy with the longest reach was able to make lightweight?
How would that go?

no true giant hw athletes in the ufc due to the 265 limit.

See Struve. It doesn't matter what your reach is if you can't or won't utilize it.

Basketball players have basketball chins.

They are not made to be fighters.

This dude was 7'7" with a 102 inch reach and weighed 200lbs

Imagine a 7'7" dude at welterweight

What was Hong Man Choi's reach? He was 7'2" , 360lb and didn't have an exceptional reach iirc. Like not much greater than Fedor .

I can picture a guy throwing those Jon Jones thigh kicks...

but like hitting the guy in the face with it.

Also relevant...

That reach is terrible

for comparison Jon Jones has 84.5 inches of reach (the most in the UFC)

Good shout out. Schilt was the first name that sprung to mind when I read the thread title.

The beating he sustained against Sergey was brutal.

There is a great misunderstanding about reach. In "fight sports", the APE-Index is the only correct measurement.

To answer your question, a long guy with short reach would probably not do very good.

Example: Mark Hunt has a positive Ape index: 1.028, while Struve has a negative index 0.986 and is considered a t-rex (there are different numbers here, so some have Struve at a positive index)

Semmy Schilt as mentioned here has a great positive Ape index, and is also the greatest striker of all time and a successful mma champ (that some consider to have the potential to be the greatest ever if he kept focusing on mma) Apes like GSP, Fedor and Anderson had great careers.
