Should the UFC ever return to Mexico City?

Carla Esparza’s win over Alexa Grasso was not well-received and one fan made sure to let her know. Esparza defeated Grasso via majority decision in the co-main event of UFC Mexico City on Saturday night. Many felt Grasso had done enough to win the fight, but as the scorecards were read out, the crowd let their disapproval be heard.

And according to Esparza, one fan did it in more ways than one by pouring beer on her as she was walking out of the Octagon.

Carla Esparza just told us backstage someone poured a beer on her when she was walking out of the octagon.

“I hate that type of behavior!” she said after the fight (via BJ Penn). “This is a sport. We all go out there and we give it our all. We work so hard to lead up to these fights. I wish those people — obviously that’s not everyone here — would have more respect.”

However, the former strawweight champion is not letting that affect her overall experience in Mexico:

“It put a damper on (the experience), but I’ve been so welcomed here in Mexico,” she added. “Even a family opened their home to me, their gym to me. There’s been so many amazing fans out here, so [my complaint is not against] all of Mexico.

I have Mexican blood. . . There’s so many amazing people here. It’s just unfortunate there’s some bad apples in the crowd.”

Of course, the entire crowd went crazy when the main event was called off due to a no contest. Given this news as well, it doesn’t speak well for the fans in attendance.

You have Mex blood Carla but down there you gotta be 100 if you are fighting a 100 percent fighter because the fans will side with the whole Mexican one instead of the part one

Maybe we could get Hendo to escort the UFC women to and from the Octagon. :-/

This somewhat indicates that the fan base is very engaged, on the other hand, this type of behaviour is toxic and should have consequences to it. But, what do you do? I don't expect the UFC to "stop" going to Mexico, so I guess we just need to accept what happened and move on.

No fuck em. It wasnt one random asshole throwing shit. Looked like the entire crowd.

I thought the Brazilian fans were the worst.

No more UFC in Mexico build a cockblock wall...

They were throwing garbage in their arena to make it look like the rest of their country.

Yeah unless the Mexican officials can ensure fighter safety and that things won't be thrown, don't book events in Mexico.
My guess is a lot of fighters took note and will refuse to fight there.

If they made good money why not. They still want to bring back a guy who hasn't won a fight in years and recently punched an old man in a bar.

Well I mean the diameter of Carla’s head was roughly half the size of the arena. That fan probably thought they were just dumping the beer on the ground but Carla’s massive dome just intruded into the beers path.

Guaranteed UFC goes back. Dana's thirst for pesos outweighs everything else, even right-wing outrage.

They should go back, but fighters get to come out like that old school pro wrestler Bruiser Brody :D
