The lightweight gate keeper and there is no close second. He chokes in big fights but smashes all others. Do you guys agree or what?

This is an original thought.

He is currently fighting at LW.

People will never all agree in "can we all agree" threads

Why do people want to agree in a fight forum?

I agree that we can never all agree.....esp on this site.

It's such an all or nothing sport, I get why being a gatekeeper is frowned upon, but... being a gatekeeper in the greatest MMA organization in the world isn't that bad. He's picked up some great wins over the years to remain worthy of remaining there + he's left such an enormous body of work, any new MMA fans in the future will inevitably stumble onto one of his fights.

If you just looked at him as an entertainer and scrolled through his resume like you would a director's IMDB profile - it's a fun library or entertainment he's helped produce.

He's got nothing on Jon Fitch, who was unanimously the number 2 WW behind GSP for quite a while.

you took a take that 95% of MMA fans have had for years and make a new thread about it?

The pound-for-pound gatekeeper with the greatest longevity..as proven by some of the UFC records he holds. If Kongo stayed in the UFC, Cowboy would've had some serious competition for that title though (and no, Kongo would never win the HW strap in the UFC).

He's been in the UFC longer, though, with more fights, plus he's a 2-division gatekeeper.

Cerrone is no different than Gaethje, Alverez, RDA, Barbosa and guys that level. He's a consistent top LW but not good enough to beat most of the best guys like Tony and Khabib. All those guys are a step behind those two. Some of those guys were champs, but that has to do with timing and the right match ups.

Cowboy is not number 2 by a long shot. He's got plenty of losses everywhere.

Fitch beat every top WW he faced other than GSP, and that streak lasted a very long time.

Cowboy has nothing on Jon Fitch, not even in the same ball park of talent. Fitch was #2, behind only the GOAT. Cowboy is like top5 of a division on a lucky day... but most often not.

Gatekeeper doesn't mean you're always the #2 guy. It means if someone beats you, they're elite and will probably get a title shot. This is true of almost everyone Cerrone lost to: Pettis, Bendo (in WEC), Diaz, RDA, Till, etc. It may be true in the near future for Tony, Masvidal and Gaethje. Outside of those guys, Cerrone has beaten almost everyone else he fought. And he's fought longer in the UFC and done gatekeeping longer than Fitch.
