Then why was Nate sidelined for 3 years? According to Nate, the UFC didn't call and when they did they were offering him prelim cards against cans, this was post Mcgegor II.(according to a Nate Diaz interview) I would believe Nate's word over sleazy Dana.

The UFC is hurting for personalities. Guys like halloway and Whitaker even with a fan friendly style are hard sells because they're relatively humble. Cejudo and his antics might make flyweight finally pay off. Jones is kinda marketable in the Mayweather sense that people will back anyone in hopes that he loses. So that leaves Diaz. Fights to finish, taunts mid fight, and a decent trash talk game. The UFC absolutely needs him in 19/20. For if nothing else to build up another champ whether it's Usman or Colby
