I realize most of you are too young to remember Jim Croce but he was taken too early.

On Thursday, September 20, 1973, during Croce's Life and Times tour and the day before his ABC single "I Got a Name" was released, Croce and 5 others were killed when the chartered Beechcraft E18S he was traveling in crashed while taking off from the Natchitoches Regional Airport in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Croce had just completed a concert at Northwestern State University's Prather Coliseum in Natchitoches and was flying to Sherman, Texas, for a concert at Austin College. The plane crashed an hour after the end of the concert.

My sister got the "I Got a Name" album for Christmas later that year. t was my introduction to Jim Croce and I've loved his music ever since.

RIP Jim. Your gift was your song. Thank You

Underrated musician imo. He is definitely one of my favorites.

Maury Muehleisen should also be honored itt. He was the guy who played lead with Jim on most of his songs and also died in the plane crash. Both very talented and lost too soon.

Here is another side of Jim that a lot of people may not be familiar with.

Croce was the man! I grew up on photographs and memories. Absolutely one of my favorite artists. I attribute my favorite style of musical taste to Mr. Croce!

Favorite line? Roller Derby program said, she was built like a 'frigerator with a head"

One year I'll go out on Halloween as Rapid Roy

He was a great singer-songwriter, no doubt: unique voice and great lyrics. RIP

Jim Croce looked like a cross between Frank Zappa and Luigi.

I don't turn off his tunes when they come on the radio, though, so he's good in my book.

I got a guitar when I was 10 or 11. One of the first songs I tried to learn to play was Time in a Bottle.

Yeah, in retrospect too bad it couldn't have been Jimmy Buffet in the plane instead.

I was taking lessons from a guitar store at the local mall. I think I also tried (that's the key word) to learn Otis Redding's Sitting on the dock of the bay.
