4 man lightweight tourney

1. Gaethje v McGregor
2. Poirier v Ferguson

Chandler is backup on standby.

If Conor pussies out because he doesnt want to fight at 155, then Chandler goes into the tournament and Hooker becomes backup.

Justin should be out of the top 4 mix since he just got a title shot.

Mini tournament should be Conor vs Dustin and Chandler vs Tony.

Justin can get 1 win and fight the winner of the tournament

Dustin vs Conor
Tony vs Chandler
Gaethje vs Do Bronx Oliveira

Two best results* (See below) fight for title

Third winner can be backup for vacant title Fight / #1 contender

*But it can’t be “most impressive“ because Dana will say Conor was most impressive regardless of truth/reality.

so

faster finish> finish > UD (and of course 30-27 > 29-28) > MD > SD

Tie break could be significant strikes landed in the case of 2 decisions
(meaning two of the three fights ended with same cards ... both 3x 30-27 or 50-45, etc)

Yeah, but since Conor is already fighting Dustin, Justin should fight Chandler. How about Tony vs "Do Bronx" Oliveira, who is on a 7 fight winning streak. The 2 most impressive winners out of the 3 fights get to fight for the belt

No need for a tournament.

Just do Conor/Dustin for the title, Tony/Chandler for a title shot and maybe Justin vs Do Bronx.

And you could start the tourney with Conor vs Dustin as first round, with the other two fights the next week since right now everyone is healthy and not booked

I said this in another thread but I would much rather see an 8-man tournament for the title. The lightweight division is the marquee for the UFC and a larger tournament is a great way to build new stars. There are some absolutely ridiculously matches to look forward to on paper too.

Quarter-finals:
A. (1) Dustin Poirier vs (8) Islam Makhachev
B. (4) Tony Ferguson vs (5) Michael Chandler
C. (3) Conor McGregor vs (6) Charles Oliveira
D. (2) Justin Gaethje vs (7) Dan Hooker

Semi-Finals:
E. Winner A vs Winner B
F. Winner C vs Winner D

Final:
G. Winner E vs Winner F

Alternates in the event of injury: Carlos Ferreira, Beneil Dariush
