So this is a bit of a confusing one because Al has dropped to 6th in LW rankings, there's all this talk about Justin Gaethje wanting to fight him with Al and Gaethje going back and forth a little lately however Gaethje has said he wants a higher ranked opponent so this might not be happening just yet.
Al is a great fighter who no doubt deserves to be among the top of the LW division, he's tough as nails however he did get pretty beat up in the Cowboy fight simply because he couldn't get past Cowboys reach.
Conor is a pointless conversation because Conor does what Conor wants and I doubt he's going to take the fight with Al Iaquinta. Dustin is fighting Khabib with Tony no doubt being the next in line to fight the winner from that fight leaving possibly Dustin and Gaethje to have another fight (if Dustin loses of course) and the Gaethje will build towards a shot against Tony or Khabib (depending on how all this goes with the Dustin/Khabib fight you guys get the gist).
So where does Al go and what would be the best fight for him? There's no point going back to a Cerrone rematch just yet so it's probably going to be a lower ranked opponent Al will have to take (again) to get a good win under his belt and climb back up again in the rankings a little while the top sort out their fights in the meantime.
Barboza maybe would be a good one for Al, Pettis maybe although he's currently concentrating on Welterweight as is Kevin Lee (though we don't want to see an Al vs Lee 3 anyway) so what do you guys think?
I'd be interested to get your take on this as I've kinda been wondering about this myself while Al fixes up (which he's pretty much done now and wants to be back in the octagon soon).
