Can we just acknowledge that the UFC is more closely related to WWE than any legit sport?

Even getting past the fact that several WWE fighters have competed in UFC, even one becoming champ lmao

WWE: Hey, we know you're a great pro wrestler in the ring, but you're not getting over with our fan base so we have to let you go.

UFC: Hey, we know you're a great MMA fighter in the cage, but you're not getting over with our fan base so we have to let you go.

And Dana has the audacity to still claim this is a sport lol

Can you imagine some NHL team drafting a Russian hockey star and saying "hey, we know you scored 50 goals last season, but you don't speak English and your jersey isn't selling well, so we're gonna have to let you go."

smh at carny Dana. He should be promoting cock fights in Tijuana

It's a mix between boxing, WWE and Worldstar

Who cares as long as we are entertained

It’s not a legit sport as long as they make BS title fights and let real contenders wait forever..

Bisping - Henderson is a perfect example of that

Prize fighting in general is not a real sport. The contests are real, the match making and rankings are made up based on non sporting factors.

Yup, it always was. Some people just don’t wanna admit it.

Not saying it’s good or bad though.

It's not a sport

Prize fighting has literally always been about the freaks over actually treating it like a sport....you go to Olympic trials if you want to compete in a sport

This is about drawing eyeballs.

Ali fought a sumo guy for fucks sake and you're acting like UFC invented this formula

Look what Lesnar did within 5 fights. WWE superstars are A-level athletes. The only reason there aren’t more of them is because not everyone wants or needs to get punched in the face to make money. They would likely hold all the titles 170 and above.

Correct, it’s trended in that direction far more since the Cunner days..

Lesnar had a wrestling background that most don’t have. Plus he was juiced and in a weak heavyweight division. The rest get squashed

You’re right. People that think it’s new are clowns. It’s always been like this.

Watch proper football if you want a real sport

Its actually a lot like other individual sports, of which WWE originally sought to emulate and create an exaggerated (and entertaining parody of). Tennis is a good example, I've been a tennis fan longer than I have MMA and there are several comparisons I can draw, tennis is built on name value and entertainment is emphasised and rewarded (as it is in most sports) with primetime spots and promotional support. I'm sure its easy to draw comparisons to WWE if you want to and if you watch that, but its just similar to all forms of sports or entertainment.

It's because the UFC is full of amateur college wrestlers who weren't good enough to turn pro, so they didn't get signed by WWE.

There's no shame in admitting so.

There's also a strong link between pro wrestling and amateur wrestling, for whatever reason. American pro-wrestling is acrobatic and probably attracts a lot of gymnasts too, but it certainly attracts amateur wrestlers.

Pro wrestling is fake fighting. It's not that crazy of a notion.
