Blaydes is a mat returner not a submission grappler. Concept of mat returning is riding and not chasing submissions/striking finishes until you have safe positions to disengage with strikes and then engage again.

I thought his top game and ground control was terrible. I don't know if it's fight IQ or what but he pretty had full mount at all times just would lazily lay on Willis instead of locking him down. There's a big difference in someone like Usman who shuts people down and someone who just lays on people. We saw the latter tonight and pretty much in all of his fights outside of Reem.
