The guy who manages him also manages Conor and is laughing because the million bucks he gets in his pocket from Conor is one step closer to the title when the 10 cents he gets from Tony is being kept away from it.

Huge mistake for a guy that is nearing the back-half of his peak IMHO. He should try to bank as much money as he can/secure that title shot because his days on the top are numbered IMO

Hopefully Tony gets his Red Panty Night with Conor. If so, this is the best thing that could have happened to him.
If he loses to him, he still gets a big $$$day.
If he beats him, he gets a big $$$day (including a $50,000 win bonus) AND he probably skips over the winner of Holloway/Poirier and fights Khabib next regardless of the Interim belt. Worst case scenario, GSP comes back and challenges Khabib instead, and Tony ends up having to fight the winner of Holloway/Poirier.
On the other hand, if Cowboy gets the fight with Conor, then Tony will just be left with someone like Al. Sucks for him.
If he loses to him, he still gets a big $$$day.

Having to beat another guy at most for the title shot>fighting Max for the interim. At this rate Khabib fights Max then Tony's next. Tony's team made the right call here especially if they can get a Conor fight.

Faith in what? Why would Conor want to fight Ferguson when he is a high risk low reward fight? Beating Ferguson does nothing to Conor's career unless Ferguson has a belt to offer.

Khabib fights Max, then Conor again, then he will retire. Ferguson just gave Khabib the perfect opportunity to dodge the fight.

It’s a weird situation. Maybe he has a promise from Dana he gets Khabib next. But imo he’d be a fool to trust Dana.
Plus there is the precedent of MW just in the last two years. Bisping was the champ but was out injured (waiting for GSP) and there was an interim fight which Whittaker won in the meantime. So the interim title holder did not get the next TS.
They could do the same thing here.

If Tony loses to Max, Khabib gets out of the fight anyway.
Also the fans are the ones who want Tony v Khabib. His team wants him to be champ. Things are set up now for everyone to knock out everyone and Tony to walk in and get the belt.

Colby did get the next shot and he turned it down. If you win a belt in a sanctioned UFC fight then that is a real belt. Ask Aldo about how real an interim belt is. When Conor got stripped the interim champ was elevated. It's definitely worth it to fight for the interim championship.
