Cain looked noticeably flabbier and more boxing oriented in the last public workout. This is understandable since his injuries must have been preventing him from the intensive cardio workouts he’s known for. In addition, the kind of chain wrestling he does puts a lot of stress on the knees and back so he must have been holding back on them, hence the loss of upper body muscle mass.

When you look at it, these changes look lot like Fedor after Pride looking flabbier and grappling a lot less, favoring the use of his hands to finish the fights without having to put his body through the punishing grind.

Cain did the same thing in his last fight with Travis Browne, finishing him quickly with minimal grappling. Do you think this is the direction he’s going now?

Don’t know about “now”, but everyone gets old.

Come to think of it, as early as the fight against Werdum, he was already moving away from his grinding style. Ironically, the very first time he attempted a TD, he got finished. May be it was because he knew his cardio was going south and could not afford to keep up this style any longer.

I bet they found that out BEFORE the fight, they did not discover it at high altitude. Something funny happened to Cain’s cardio before that

Only time will tell

But guys like Cain and Fedor definately age much worse than other fighters

Fedors chin is super depressing...

Wouldn;'t be shocked if he went the Chuteboxe method in his earlier years... thinking that taking punches to the head during sparring prepares you to take more damage during fights

Cain looks the exact same as the old cain, he's not shot or out of prime. Even DC confirmed Cain is still the same.
And fedor was never really takedown artist or a great grappler. he only used his grappling more in pride against people with bad takedown defense like Schilt, hunt, Goodridge

Not quite true. Cain took Werdum down in the first round, but then got back up when Werdum started going for subs.

Fedor in his prime was beyond a great grappler.

Fedor has 50 some fights. Cain would have to be 400 years old to go way of Fedor based on his leisurely pace. Its not age look at aldo - it's wars and prepping for wars
