I know this notion of being a good wrestler makes it hard think of the idea of taking Khabib down, but we can distinct offensive and defensive wrestling in order to see past the generalisation under which Khabib may very well hide his defensive wrestling behind the lauded offensive one. You can even see that his body is leaning forward to attribute his offensive style, but the very same leaning forward and his small hips makes it easier to take his legs under him. Problem is: who tried it?

Looking at his career, he didn't fight any competent wrestler himself, it was mainly strikers and some fighters that posed mild bjj threat. Khabib enjoyed a rather pleasant cruise stylistically in his UFC career. We are yet to see someone competent going on a wrestling offense against him.

Maybe, but probably the best way to defeat Khabib is to punch him in the face really hard. That seems to do the trick on most guys.

That's true and mostly because he's at 155. If Khabib moved to 170 then he would have to deal with wrestlers trying to wrestle him but at 155 he practically has a free reign to do as he pleases. Who is going to wrestle him at 155? Tibau did but who else? Lee? Think about it, most of the top guys at 155 are strikers which makes Khabib look like god. Why do you think he won't move to 170 where the wrestlers are?

Abel Trujillo a four-time NAIA All-American took him down and almost got caugh in a couple of subs, Khabib has a good guard and is able to get on his feet pretty quickly, remember who he trains with.

We're always yet to see anyone competent going up against a dominant fighter. Happens to everyone.

TRTibau also took Khabib down, but Khabib sprung up almost instantly.

Khabib guard vs Trujillo was quite impressive

Excellent TDD. Very powerful and accurate striking. Beaucoup cardio. Guy doesn't exist, at least not at 155. Furguson is the best bet but he doesn't have the TDD and tends to take too much damage while trying to work from his back. Against Khabib those bad situations he gets himself into and out of will probably end up being too bad of situations for even Tony.

Thank you. You can see that even a guy like Trujilo, because of his wrestling background, shot for it and easily took him down because Khabib naturally slouches forward with his legs bent. Abel's lack of grappling defense is not that important. What matters is that you you can take him down and have a lot of points doing so rather than be the nail and let be taken down.

The Trujillo fight was 6 years ago, and he's proven incapable of fully transitioning his skillset to the cage. His best wins are Varner and Tibau. I'd like to see khabib employ his skillset against a high level wrestler who's also a legit top ten.

Trujilo has a good wrestling pedigree. He took Khabib down, and nearly got subbed multiple times..
Anyway that fight was back in 2013, Khabib had only recently joined AKA. His defensive grappling has probably improved tenfold..

Only way to beat this guy is to knock him out with 1 punch. You will lose rounds against this guy and a sudden KO is the only way to beat him i think. This is why i see Tyron beating him. 1 punch KO power and pretty good take down defence.

Sherk would fuck up khabib

Gathje and lee have the best chance

Then what though? it's going to take a lot more than just taking him down to beat him.

A few people have already said it, but I think it's to K.O. him and his striking defense is very good. I don't see anyone beating him at LW, there are definitely some guys at WW that are capable, but as long as Khabib can continue to make LW he should stay there.

gathje has mediocre wrestling. yeah he was a big deal back in the day but hes a striker now. judging by their performances vs al iaquinta im guessing khabib finishes lee 100%. it will probably be one of the easiest fights of his career. lee doesnt have the striking or the grappling to beat khabib.

you dont really realize the difference between a take down hit by a striker or a guy with decent striking than a takedown hit by khabib??? its 20 times easier to duck under a combination and take someone down when theyre not expecting it than do like khabib does. everyone knows khabib is coming for the takedown and they cant stop it. Trujillo taking khabib down was just more of a surprise attack than anyting else. you cant really be a good wrestler and not have defensive wrestling. you ppl never really trained wrestling or grappling??

Because he fights at 155 and doesn't have problems making weight?
