It's hard to be a fan of the guy at the top. No one wants to look fairweather and like a bandwagon fan, but for most of us who are members of this forum and consider ourselves to be mma hardcores, we've known how good Khabib is for some years. The result against Mcgregor was only suprising to a few on here, and hats off to those guys for staying true and maintaining the belief, but now when I think of Khabib I don't really feel the admiration for him that I used to have. His manager is a literal former terrorist. On top of this we hear about instances of Khabib not shaking hands with women on TV out of "respect" and now we see (months after the fight) Khabib or his manager taking shots at a fighter he already beat in Conor. Building schools in Africa or something but those kids MUST convert to Islam - don't quote me on that. It's all pretty tasteless for me.

I read in the build up to Conor v Khabib, that Nurmagomedov represents the best of Islam - a hard working family man that has no vices, is extremely disciplined and focused on reaching the pinnacle. And Conor the worst of the west, a trash talking disrespectful drunk, seemingly willing to do anything for money. If this was the case and khabib is supposed to be this great guy, why has not tried to present Islam in a more palatable way and open up it's doors to the west. Religion should be kept out of the public eye but Khabib is constantly making political statements, frequently paying visits to warlords like Khadyrov and Putin. All of this has culminated in an attitude change towards Khabib for me. I think we all knew he was a bit arrogant all along, but his outbursts against Dana were justified because he was the best fighter in the division for about the last 5 years. I just want him to start acting and saying the right things again because it feels tough to be a fan of him right now

How about you calm the fuck down. He is suspended right now from fighting. Let due course do it’s thing and then we’ll talk.

Not really. He doesn't have to be a role model for me, I don't care that much about fighter personalities, but of course there are some obnoxious and unlikeable ones. I think khabib is pretty easy to like.

I was already aware he is a devoted muslim, so not much changed for me. Not a fan of islam at all, but still a huge fan of Khabib as a fighter.

Kinda the same i have with Fedor, he also has some really conservative/orthodox views, but still my hero.

I feel exactly the same as always. I wasnt in the dark about a muslim from Dagestan and their lifestyle. Ive been a fan of khabibs since i saw the rda fight. I dont agree with a lot of his views obviously but nothing new has come up because of his fight with conor. I knew about chechnya and all of that stuff and dagestan is right next door so none of what he does seems peculiar.

Couldn't bother to read the entirety of this crap on such a fine Saturday but if you could just start bitching about something else it would be a good start. It's 2019 everyone knows what's a religion of peace.

Khabib was never my friend. It's just that I was pretty sure he would rustle McNugget fans jimmies so I went along for the ride.

Pretty much my thoughts too. I was a fan from way back and predicted to my mates he would be champ. Probably my best one ever as I'm usually wrong. As for his Islamic ways of living I knew this years ago when I was in the Middle East. This is normal when different cultures mix. We just do things differently.

Anyone's going to be a sympathetic figure juxtaposed to Conor.

Judged on his own merits alone things may look a bit different I guess.

For me I'd go the other way though. I always thought that Khabib's limited skillset would stop him from getting to the top, but hat's off to the guy. Never liked his style of fighting, and never will, but I can't deny he's a great fighter now.

Stopped reading at best of islam lmao. There is no best of islam. How is there anything good in something created by a guy who had sex with children? There is no good in islam just stop it with your bs

I just hope he doesn’t let himself rot on the shelf like other “champions” do.

It's always gonna be tough if you confuse being fan of a fighter with being fan of a person. And a bit childish, I must say.

Why the fuck would you care if Khabib is a muslim? Why would anyone care that Jon Jones is a coke addict?

They are great fighters, and that's what they do. That's the part of them you admire.

I think Conor could beat him now that he's experiences what Khabib offers. If he brought in legit wrestlers and Sherk all juiced up.

Khabib could be a fucking Satanist idc I just wanna see the guy fight..

this. absolutely, right. if you fight great, i couldn't give a shit what you do with your spare time. so long as you aren't hurting anyone lol. not much to ask.
