I've been doing some reasearch on Savage Arms, Howa, and Remington .308 rifles. I was wondering if any of you own a .308 rifle (semi or bolt action) and what are your thoughts on the one(s) you owe.

Also, anyone have info to share on the Saiga 7.62X39 rifle? This rifle has caught my attention as well.

The Tubegun I have is just a rem 700 chambered in 308, with a 13 twist barrel, for lighter bullets.

It wasn't drop-in, like the fart-knocker I bought it from said, but now that it's done I like it. I'm still perfecting my bipod technique for it.

I saw a guy with some savage 308 at the last 1000 yard match I went to. He did alright, but The savage he had wasn't cheap. It was that tactical model they make at $900+ Don't know what this tells ya, but there you be.

I have an SA58 FAL rifle. I really like it. If I were going for a bolt-action rifle I'd pick a hunting cartridge that doesn't come in a semi-automatic military-style rifle--.300 WSM, 7mm-08 Remington, something like that.

I hear the .300 WSM is about the same size as the .308, but uses modern propellants to give it a flatter trajectory and higher velocity.

Steyr Scout. It's light, tough as nails (new models have nitride barrels, should be good for 10k rounds), has proper sling swivels placed properly, Built in BUIS, and crazy accurate. I'm averaging 2.5 cm groups at 100 meters with Federal Gold 168gr, and slightly less with handloads. I've taken several deer, a black bear, and an Elk with it. My closest friend has a Savage that is just as accurate, but it's a more traditional heavy barrel model. Our shop has sold several Weatherby Vanguard S2s, and I've been very impressed. Pairing the Weatherby with a Leupold gets you a tack-driver for under $800.

I have a savage and love it personally. Great for hunting.

To be honest, still not 100% sure how accurate my FAL is. Out to 100 yards I can't even see the target with iron sights, best I've done is to strap it to a heavy shooting bag and try not to move it between shots. At 100 yards, groupings are maybe 6cm, but I'm sure the rifle is more accurate than that.

Need to get a scope.

Also, it is a heavy sob--I think over 10 lbs.

6cm at 100 is par for the course with a FAL, most accurate FAL I've ever seen was good for maybe 1.5" at 100.

I've got an M1A National Match. Fitted with the JAE Stock, bipod, rear monopod and optics. Also replaced the guide rod and a few other internals with more precise parts. Shoots great, and with the heavy stock and bipod, recoil is negligible. Even my wife enjoys shooting it.

It's heavy but its a tac driver and a blast to shoot. Very reliable, magazines are readily available and it is pretty unique. People always comment on it when I bring it to the range.

The only big rifle I have is a break action. I think BA rifles are underrated.

My Uncle has a .308 pistol. it's all kinds of fun.

I have a mossberg 100 atr and Remington 700 aac both in .308. The mossberg is accurate enough for hunting, I plan on using it if the weather gets bad or if I have a long hike since it is so light. I am still in the process of getting some scope rings for the 700 to mount my vortex diamondback on it.

A word of warning about the saiga sporters, they are very heavy guns when loaded with full capacity mags. I wouldn't buy one in 7.62x39 just because at that point you may as well pick up an ak from a decent manufacturer. If you want one in 7.62x51 (308.Win) you probably wont find a cheaper semi auto 308.Win out there that isnt used all to hell. That's assuming of course you can find one because it really isnt all that easy to lay your hands on a good saiga these days.

Got a PTR91. Good solid gun. ergonomics arent as spot on as with an AR-15 but its till easy to shoot. Recoil is harsher than on a FAL and it destroys your brass but its accurate and reliable.

I have a Remington 700 5r that I shot out to about 600 yds before I moved overseas.

770 in .308, love it. Shot straight right out of the box and have had none of the problems with it the internet says I should be having.

I have an AR10, dpms 308 moe 16".

Works well. I had to replace the extractor on it. Other than that it works fine. It also like to be fired very wet. I have only used cheap ass ammo and a cheap scope on it. I can hit a large 2 foot piece steel at 300 yards without much effort... Not really impressive but that's really all I've done as far as range. With the shitty stock trigger, scope and surplus ammo I can get like 3-4" groups at 100 yards. Also not impressive. I didn't really buy it to be a precision rifle and I'm sure with good ammo and a trigger upgrade it would do good enough. Getting one with a longer barrel would help as well.
I want to put an aimpoint on it or something but that rifle is low on priority list. I want to build a nice precision .308 ar in the future but that rifle was meant for just some high power closer range blasting.

Just bought this .308 (PTR91) a couple weeks ago. I did a few upgrades to it. It's a very good rifle. Also bought a Howa 1500 (in a 30-06) about a month or so ago and put a Nikon Monarch on it...it's awesome. Trigger is probably the best I've ever felt on a factory.

Too lazy to take a better pic, .308 on bottom. This was for a hypothetical zombie attack thread or something like that.
