what are your 3 favorite mma moments. Plain and simple, as a fan what are the 3 biggest moments you saw happening live that have stuck with you the most.
For me:
1. GSP stopping Hughes to win the title. Iirc this happened around the same time Rampage knocked out Chuck (another favorite moment of mine) and represented a huge sea change in mma. The old company man champions (franklin, Liddell, Hughes) were being pushed out and we were beginning to see new exciting talent rise to the top. This was also around the same time Pride guys were beginning to come over. One of the best times, in my opinion, to an mma fan.
2. Diaz vs Daley
Not really sure why but this fight will always really stick out for me. Perfect 1 round fight. So exciting. Nick was an underdog, like he always was, and beat Daley on the feet, something no one expected him to be able to do. Such an exciting stoppage. This was shortly after zuffa bought strikeforce, seeing Dana go crazy in the front row was surreal. This fight opened up a lot of possibilities and made the strikeforce merger even more exciting than it already was.
3. I’m having a hard time picking a third moment. But I’m gonna go with Diaz vs Mgregor 2. Based mostly on the quality of the fight itself. Reminded me of a great boxing match with the back and forth over 5 rounds. One of my favorite fights of all time.
Honorable mentions- Vitor vs Anderson, such an exciting buildup and what a finish. The GSP vs Bisping finish was also a moment that had me jumping into the air in pure excitement. Such a great moment and such a great finish by GSP.
Boxing- PAC vs Marquez 4, seeing Marquez, who in 36 rounds had never even hurt pacquaio, plant the guy face first into the canvas when he himself seemed close to going out, was and still is the most shocking holy shit moment I’ve ever seen in any combat sport. The only time I can remember literally yelling out holy fking shit at my tv screen.
K1- ummmmm. I guess seeing ubereem Uber his way through that GP was pretty cool. He had that dope docu series at the time that was perfect for the moment.
Alright I’d like to hear yours. First three things that come to mind.
