"On Sunday, April 19th I competed at the 2015 IBJJF Gothenburg International Open in Sweden. I ended up losing my only match in the Black Belt/Adult/Light weight placing me again in third place for the second weekend in a row, since I also took third at the Rome International Open in Italy (Read blog).

I lost a tough battle to a great upcoming competitor, Alex Cabanes, from Atos by points 4x2 (3x2 in advantages). Alex recently took second place at the Rio Fall International Open in Brazil. I also competed in the Open Class Division and lost my first match. Rough weekend! Check out my exclusive video blog

Some of the best coaches in the world had mediocre competitive careers. Once you've established yourself as a brand and shown worth I don't think it's much of a risk. In fact when you're on your way out you can keep an open forum with your users and discuss it both as an athlete and a coach.

So you lost your match but still came in 3rd place? Only a 3 man tourney huh....Ok I guess.

People who are afraid to lose do not deserve to be coaches.

I am very glad you compete, especially in adult even though you are getting close to retirement age as a competitive athlete.

TS, if you're Gustavo, I've read a brief story about you, your bjj journey and how I perceive you as a very humble, very nice guy and teacher. Saw your brief videography, can't remember where though.

I would be honoured to train BJJ under you if given the chance. Been watching the instructionals that you and Robson Moura made, Fusion BJJ. Great videos.

Thanks for this great read and motivational article.
