The U.S. government may be pressuring banks to cancel the accounts of private citizens and businesses considered "undesirable" by the U.S. government. Such as: pornographers, ammunition sellers, and "racial groups." See what you think.

No that's democrats for you. I've been saying that they're soft fascists pretending to be liberals. Stop letting them get alway with this crap.

I disagree with these sorts of policies but they've been ongoing for quite awhile under all administrations.
Let's just oppose them on non-partisan grounds.

keyword: private. the DoJ is not private you useful idiot.

Boom. That was so fierce it hurt MY feelings.

This shouldn't surprise anyone given this administration's willingness to get down and dirty and call ordinary citizens names. From calling secured bondholders "speculators" while villianizing them for protecting their rights, to calling Kanye West a jackass, to his comment about George Zimmerman. Forcing businesses' hands on reputation risk is not a big leap.

I'm pretty sure marijuana dispensaries are already denied access to banking, but that's just like the Vice episode informing me.

Anyway, Holder would need to get it up and running basically immediately, because nobody's listening to his guidelines after the midterms. He'll have no time to enforce this anyway. As soon as the GOP takes the legislature you can be sure those ammunition makers/distributors will be protected.

Did somebody say George Zimmerman?

Anyway -
As soon as the GOP takes the legislature you can be sure those ammunition makers/distributors will be protected.
Let's fucking hope so.

banks have been refusing business to porn companies for years.
your conservative peers were pretty o.k with it when there was a thread made on this 2 months ago "private companies can refuse business to anyone yadayada
"

That the Washington Post found it fit to print suggests this may not be a problem so glibly dismissed.

Especially since the existence of "Operation Chokepoint" is A. Known and B. the details are kept secret from us the public and from potential victims.

Can banks pop up to take advantage of this money making opportunity?

As you may know, the McMillan family has been in the Firearms related industry for three generations. McMillan Fiberglass Stocks and McMillan Firearms Manufacturing are known around the world for tremendous products and outstanding customer service.

In April of 2012, Bank of America asked me, Kelly McMillan to find another bank simply because we manufacture firearms. Conversations with our partners and customers show this is a growing problem. The Firearms industry is under enormous pressure, with many financial vendors covertly discriminating against firearms manufacturers and retailers. Others openly refuse to handle legal firearms transactions or lend to anyone in the firearms industry. Companies are being deprived of the ability to process debit and credit card transactions, often with no notice, simply because they sell firearms, ammunition, or related products and services.

To combat this trend, I have secured a relationship with a gun-friendly credit card processor. Between the processor and my newly formed business McMillan Merchant Solutions (MMS) we will help strengthen the firearms industry and support those organizations that are fighting for our 2nd Amendment rights. We can now provide financial stability for those who accept credit cards as payment and can even provide short-term loans to qualified customers.

It should also be pointed out the Ebay's policies are certainly what put Gunbroker on the map.

House Report: "Choke Point" Targets Legal Businesses for Asphyxiation

On May 29, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) released a staff report, The Department of Justice's "Operation Choke Point": Illegally Choking Off Legitimate Businesses? The report concludes that the true goal of the operation is to "choke out" certain industries, including legal businesses like sellers of firearms and ammunition, which the current administration considers politically objectionable.

The report follows the Department of Justice's (DOJ's) launch last year of Operation Choke Point, a wide-ranging investigation into banks and payment processors (the middlemen between banks and merchants in financial transactions). DOJ claimed the operation was aimed at combating mass-market consumer fraud by shutting down access to the banking and payment systems that are necessary for fraudulent businesses to operate. The justification was an alleged higher "risk profile" for consumer fraud or potentially illegal activities associated with some merchants or activities identified by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).

Well Obama is pushing for the banks to do business in legal/medical states. But, according to the government weed is illegal. Porn and guns are not.
So a bank like HSBC can take cartel cash to help them meet the reserve requirements, but if you are involved in porn or guns it's a no go, Thanks Obama.

It's in the opinion pages, and written by a George Mason guy. You really should learn to be more skeptical/less gullible, even when someone is telling you what you want to hear. I assume you're new to following politics, but over time you'll realize that 99% of these stories by one side or the other are complete bullshit.

Maybe the government should shut off accounts to the NSA and their private contractors since they are constantly breaking the law without any regard.
