Ok. I've read that you should consume a gram of protein for every lb of body weight. The thing is I'm 5'10", 240lb with approx 28% BF. Should I be attempting to consume that much protein, or should i stick to about 180 grams?? Also, I don't lift much, and some short morning runs and 2-3 BJJ classes per week is my current form of exercise. I am trying to eat better though in an attempt to lose weight.

It should be 0.5-1 gram per pound of lean body mass. So .72 * 240 = 172.8 So 90-180 grams seems about right.

But honestly don't even worry about those kinds of details yet. Work on these:

Once you have those under control, everything else will fall into place.

Yeah, I'm gradually getting into the 7 habits. I used to be a regular here, then got sidelined by a knee injury, then a neck injury. I went from 250 down to 223 then back up to 245. Now I'm working my way back down again, with my goal of being 200 by April 21st (NAGA Worlds in NJ). or at least being within cutting range of 200.

Sounds like you should know what to do then. Good luck man.

Thanks for posting this. Many BB sites have perpetuated the myth that you need at least 1 g of protein/lb (not LBM) & this info often gets repeated even on here. They often say between 1-3 g of protein/lb. They sell protein, of course they're going to want to push it. Also, MMA is very different from BB. The needs of those who train MMA are quite different. I'd say carbs are important in MMA, unlike in BB where they're frowned upon.
