Was just thinking about all this talk about "evolved divisions", and decided to take a look @ what the UFC ranks in its top 10 WW, in 2020:

-Ancient Lawler, has fought for nearly 20 years
    -Nate Diaz (self explanatory lol)
-RDA (love RDA but he is also old, has been fighting for 16 years and clearly at his best at LW)
    -Chiesa
-Million year old Maia who still somehow manages to backpack dudes
-Masvidal, another guy who has been around forever and is inconsistent to say the least

Then you have Woodley, who is old but at least is a generation newer than some of the guys above, in terms of when he started to compete in MMA.

And only 3 fresh enough fighters in Colby, Kumaru and Leon.
Two of them just fought and showed how two wrestlers with stiff striking box.

    So.....where is the evolution?

EDIT: Left out Wonderboy. Ok, another newer guy. Doesn't change the overall picture of the top 10 though IMO.

It's not easy for someone to evolve over a GOAT. We won't see a lot of better fighters than Jon Jones any time soon as well, if ever, not to mention Fedor.

On the other side it's evident that great level wrestlers can win titles with more limited striking skills, so I would be expecting a lot more of them too.

The divisions are dying dude. WW is the next victim.
HW has always been dead, but it seems to be resurecting a bit with Stipe, Ngannou and Blades.
LHW dead for almost a decade now, they'v been feeding Jones old veterans and MW journeymen for a long time.
MW dead for the past couple of years when they suddenly lost Anderson, Luke, Moose, Weirdman, Jacare and Romero is about to retire. They lost the TOP6 rooster in just few years.
Now WW is dying as you described the situation clearly.

Wasn't really thinking of GSP, but the top 10 as a whole.

Half of it is on the doorstep of retirement.

Idk if it's that the division is dying, or that it's about guys that we don't know so we have a hard time putting them on the same level as the well known guys.

Fuck the Divisions, the Cash Cows are more important than a stacked Division with Top Contenders and hot Prospects.

Diaz and Robbie shouldn't be ranked. Maia is once ever bjj fighter. Rest are proven great fighters.

The division is in a transitional phase of some sorts and will figure itself out in a year or two.

Usman Colby and Edwards are better than any of the opponents GSP fought in title fights.
