Movies 2000s Movie Marathon: Million Dollar Baby

Nah the sequel never interested me at all. Never seen it nor do I want to.

I'll end up watching Begins eventually but I have always preferred DK.

I'm actually going to rewatch LOTR fellowship, I'm going to watch the extended version instead and then watch all 3 in order.

Begins for me just always flowed better. I think it's kind of a toss up that depends on personal taste. Both do certain things a little better.

I'll probably rewatch the LOTR movies soon. I liked the first two but didnt see the third one until years later without brushing up and it was really strange by itself.

Movie 10: Sin City

Synopsis: An exploration of the dark and miserable Basin City and three of its residents, all of whom are caught up in violent corruption.

My Rating: 7/10

I remember seeing this movie at the theaters back in 05 and I thought it was great. I have seen it a few times have always enjoyed watching it. It's a lot of fun, it's wild, over the top, and it can be kind of dumb but it works.

Bruce Willis gets shot a dozen times and lives. Mickey Rourke is basically impossible to kill. It's so dumb yet its good. My favourite story was the Clive Owen/Benico Del Toro storyline. Rosario Dawson and her sexy killing babes

I think the Mickey Rourke storyline was my least favourite. It had it's moments but overall it was the least interesting of the 3.

I liked the Bruce Willis storyline as well. Michael Madsen was fitting as his crooked partner that betrays him. Nancy turns out to be Prime Jessica Alba...

Overall I give it high 7 out of 10. It's a lot of fun and still entertaining. I liked it more as a teenager but still very good nonetheless.
Fun Fact: Robert Rodriguez left the director's union after he was denied permission to credit Frank Miller as co-director.

Movie 11: The Wrestler

Synopsis: A faded professional wrestler must retire, but finds his quest for a new life outside the ring a dispiriting struggle.

My Rating: 8/10

I grew up watching a lot of wrestling so I might like this movie a little bit more then some. The story of a legend who doesn't know when to retire, that will wrestle in the small time shows just to continue to feed his adrenaline and love for wrestling.

Hardcore matches were never my favourite when they were brutal, but the match in here was really well done and believable. The tacks, the staples, the gashes and slashes and all of the blood was authentic and realistic.

I liked his story outside of the ring, being lonely because all of the time he invested being on the road doing what he loves the most, even more than his family.

Marissa Tomei was still sexy, her body was banging and she's nude quite a bit.

I think my favourite scene was the ending, Marissa quits her job and leaves to go see Mickey, she doesn't want him to wrestle and she says she wants to be with him, but he chooses what he loves most, being a wrestler. The final shot of Randy with tears in his eyes fighting the physical pain of his body and then the emotional pain of losing out on Marissa before delivering his final elbow drop was the perfect way to end the film.

Id give the Wrestler a 9/10. My favourite movie of that year. Rourke delivered the best male performace as well...sorry Sean Penn.

Excellent acting. Great story.

Sin City: 9

Sin City was great imho. Really unique and pretty well done.

Was Casino Royale really that good? I dont remember it being anything other than average

Movie 12: Signs

Synopsis: A widowed former reverend living with his children and brother on a Pennsylvania farm finds mysterious crop circles in their fields, which suggests something more frightening to come.

My Rating: 7/10

It's a 7 on the dot. I actually think the movie is really dumb and I laughed really hard at what were suppose to be emotional scenes, such as his wife dying by the tree. Mel was easily the superior actor and I enjoyed all of his scenes. M Knight should never do acting in his films. I laughed again when he was talking to Mel and apologizing for accidentally killing his wife, but he also said it was meant to be lol

There's a theory that the aliens are actually demons but I don't believe it. I think this movie is about aliens. The alien or demon was hilariously bad as well. And yet I was entertained and I still like and enjoy the movie. I think Gibson and Phoenix are the biggest reasons why, they can make a bad movie worth watching with how well they can act. The scene where they look like Hershey kisses still makes me laugh as well.

M Knights 3rd best movie.

Way too many plot holes, though. For example, the Aliens landing on a planet at least 70% of which is covered in the very thing the Aliens are violently allergic to: water.
See, this is actually the sort of criticism that bothers me, no offense. Its like when people say the Dragon in the Hobbit isn't realistic looking.

They're aliens. Who knows why they do what they do, plus at one point in the film, its actually mentioned the aliens seems to stay away from large bodies of water.

Unless they land in a desert, they are going to encounter water at some point. Yet with technology advanced enough to travel the vast distances between their world and ours, they do not wear any form of protection, for example an Alien version of a Hazmat Suit. The also don't appear to use any form of weapons, engaging humans in hand to hand combat, in spite of being only marginally stronger.

So I decided to give up on the 90s thread because I felt it was going to be too difficult since the 90s era of films is arguably the best of all time. I was having issues with placing 3 movies (kept rotating them) and I only watched 7 so far lol

So I decided to do the 00s instead, which will be a lot easier imo
