20 moderators NO ACTION TAKEN

Zero tolerance sounds good to me.
Also, people treat each other in the forums the way they do for the same reason people drive like assholes - because of the anonymity and the safety from retribution it affords them. Face to face, they would get their asses kicked, so these are their little areas where they can act out like they have a pair.

So true.

Oh and you're not getting modship, I like ya, but remember that little situation with your douchebag friend having your account? If your account had been a Mod account...

I'm interested in modship.

Yes. I'm not saying I log on with 10 unread PM's about it, but over time I've had a lot of requests, either of how to become a mod, of if the person pm'ing me could be a mod. It's usually like an orange belt who joined 2 months ago.

oh.

i think that's just a bit presumptuous and a little out of the blue; i guess it's not too farfetched but i never really assumed people were that adamant about doing it.

i hope they're not the same people who complain about somethingone in a thread but are too lazy to pm a mod :D

You guys would be surpised at the amount of shit we have to weed through daily, the amount of threads that are moved, deleted, pulled, edited etc, hell we ban like 5 trolls on average every hour. This site is huge and it has gotten to a point where it's almost impossible to contain all this traffic beacuse with increased popularity comes increased stupidity, that's what happens when you give some people the privilage of posting on a free internet forum with complete anonymity. This is also why we largely rely on the users to help us out as much as possible, we can't be online 24/7 and there will be threads missed even when we're online, we're only human. If you see shit on the boards PM someone, it's not that hard and takes up alot less time than having to start a thread bitching about it.

i had a pretty lengthy "thank you" on the last page but ill say it again that i (and im sure plenty of other people) do appreciate it. the merging/deleting threads, the banning/dubbing, some of you guys help with avatars and such, and i can't complain

people think it's snitching to pm a mod when some idiot on a forum raid thinks it's brilliant to post gay porn imagery in numerous threads. i don't. and lots of people apparently think it's just, point-click-ban/delete thread/etc
i don't, and i can't imagine how insane it must get during/before a big ppv

also, claiming that it's hopeless because one mod's pms are full is BS. some mods are invisible, and it's better to pm another who might come online later and get rid of the spyware link or the porn link.

so thanks again guys, it DOES NOT go unnoticed, and like i said, i think all of you have helped me with something at least once.

keep it up

Drastic Man is saying that Sherdog moderators are inundated with work to the point where "it's almost impossible to contain all this traffic" and you're saying that tons of requests are being made with regard to becoming a moderator, why not hire more people? I'm sure that somewhere in that long line of people who want to become a moderator there are some well qualified candidates who would be an asset to the Sherdog community. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining but I do feel that it is unfair to ask a group of twenty people to moderate the HW forum when it's obvious the job requires more manpower.

I never had a problem with how this message board was being moderated but after reading Drastic Mans comments, it appears that hiring more people in an effort to reduce individual workload would make a lot of sense. After all, you guys are doing this on your own volition, it's not like any money is exchanging hands. Anyhow, keep up the good work.

It's not my call about bringing in more mods, I'm not necessarily opposed to it. If we did, I'm sure everyone has candidates in their mind, so suggestions really aren't needed. Also I wouldn't use the term "hire" cause it's not like we're getting paid here, as you said.

Risk/reward factor. The board doesn't function as bad as some people think. And it's my opinion that if more posters set an example as opposed to crying AT the people they hate...then it would self-weed instead of us having to babysit everyone every night, every hour. Rather people are content to not ignore trolls, not even use the ignore feature, in fact resist us when we encourage that...and then complain when they're told by us to just set an example and not give gratification to trolls or bad posters who are only obviously looking for attention.

Adding more Cops is never an answer per se. Most posters already either think we're Nazis or slackers, hardly in-between. So more Nazis? More policing? Then it'd be all "Sherdog sucks because it's too tightly regimented"...which we already get as it is. Then we run the risk of unstable users having Mod accounts. The last Mod we had who lost his mind and went apeshit wasn't a pretty situation. Add more Mods, and we exponentially increase the risk of that as well as security breaches where Mod accounts are hacked.

It's more of a sensitive issue than it seems really.

I never had a problem with the way this message board was being moderated and I completely agree with you. I would only suggest expanding the number of moderators if the workload/traffic reached a level that required more people. From my standpoint, Sherdog is fine as is and it's a shame there are so many crybabies who blow a minor problem out of proportion. Keep up the good work.

Also the problem with people wanting to bring more mod's on is, we have a good team as is that works together, and its hard when you have what, we went from 75,000 members to 82,000 in not even a couple of months, The growth amount is way too much and if you what wanted 1 mod to every 2000 people, it'd still mean we'd bring in a person like every week or 2. It's not smart.

I always thought the mods do a great job considering the amount of members Sherdog has but they sure dont get any recognition for the work they do so thank you all.

Why don't you re-instate the report post button?

the report post button just sends an email to a mod's email address. some get on sherdog and check pm's alot more than they do their email.
