Hey,

how often did you guys lift? Is once a week enough? Otherwise i have to time to train. almost everyday, expect wensday is training for 1 - 2,5 h....

thx

Two or three times a week is ideal. I'm not sure what this has to do with BJJ. Are you training BJJ on top of this? In that case I'd recommend a 2 day split. Read the FAQ.

do BJJ as much as you can, then lift the rest of the days.

One day can be enough to make strength gains most definitely. Just make sure you're doing dead's, squats, and OHP/Dips.

i think he means will lifting weights once a week help is BJJ and not will taking BJJ once a week improve his BJJ.

I think you need to lift 3 times a week to improve fast enough to make you feel like you're making progress. If you lift 1x/week and you won't see enough improvement to make you want to continue lifting at all.

That is my opinion.

Personally I work out before my grappling sessions, it helps me not use power and to learn to relax (As I'd have to due to my muscles being exhausted) I found it worked well for me, but that could just be me.

and I usually worked out and grappled every second day (the benefit of having an open mat group and everyone lived on campus)

I've got everyday training except the wensday. So i tought, i can take that day to make a lifting day.

No Splitt just one Routine:

deads
Squats
Bench
Dips
Chinsups
Olympic Lifts.

2-3 sets 1-10 reps. Try to make myself stronger. Just i raise the weight training? Should i splitt? Before Bjj lifting - First lift and then train?

best regards

to tell you the truth if your doing bjj 3 x a week and trying to lift also i would only lift once a week wrestling and grappling is like lifting wts if you lift to much and try to grapple you will injure yourself ! be careful especially your shoulders take a beating when you grapple you really dont want to be real stiff and tight when you grapple! i think swimming would be better for you you develop incredible muscle endurance and and cardio all at the same time and you arent all bulked up !

For me lifting heavy once a week works fine. On other days i do Ross Enamait's conditioning. Alot of his routines involve weights, which will improve your strength. Perhaps not so much your one rep max, but more endurance and explosive qualities. I think for pure BJJ that might matter a bit more than a big bench. Nothing wrong with training heavy, but i know when i did it three times a week i was less effective on the mat.

just my opinion

I do BJJ 3 times/week, lift weights 3 days/week. 2 days are spent prioritising lower body due to muscular imbalance/injury.

You can train heavy 1/week and do other training if you want (say cardiovascular). It really depends on your training goals and where you are at. This option would be fine if you were already very strong had a solid base and just wanted to focus on BJJ and conditioning and had no injuries.

Debo, first of all I think it takes alot more than just screwing up to get injured on a lift. Such as not having a spotter, guessing what weight to put, poor form, mental weakness, and not thinking.

Also, when you're grappling, you're not going to get seriously hurt if you're at least in a half decent school.
