Going to Cancun for the first time mid-October this year. Going with a few buddies and with scheduling conflicts October was the best time we could do. So any Sherdoggers have any advice on ways to maximize our enjoyment while at the same time not ending up with our bodies chopped to pieces in a trunk of a Miata in Tijuana at the hands of the local Cartel? We will be there for about a week. Any activities that you highly recommend? Any areas that should be strictly avoided?

    Any valid responses are appreciated.

have personally never been, but from what i hear, stay in the tourist areas and you'll probably be fine. the nice thing about going to mexico, is unless you're interacting with older people, most people will know basic english. younger people speak english pretty well.

Hopefully it's cooler and less humid than we went. It was ridiculous. The highlight was probably going to Xelja Water Park. That was pretty epic.

As soon as you get in to Cancun, take a ride to Playa Del Carmen and stay there instead. Maybe take the ferry to Cozumel as well.

Dont leave the tourist areas in large groups or with guides, it attracts cartel people and kidnappers.

You need to lay low, drink alone in the smaller bars outside the tourist areas. And complain about the beer.

    The food sucks.

Wear sunblock. My buddy, his girl, and my sister's boyfriend are dark-as-fuck negroes and they all three got horrible sunburn.

My girlfriend, my sister, and myself are white mutts, so we knew to pack as high an SPF as possible. We still got burnt.
