Look at all the men wearing suits and fancy hats. Plus the women wearing full gowns, with big fancy hats. Must be very hot wearing those clothes in the middle of the summer. I'd be very uncomfortable.

Also the kids we're all well dressed all playing outside.

And the smell must been divine with all the horses.

    How times have changed.

Pretty amazing footage and the added audio.

Here's footage of Paris in 1890.

    Very cool.

Bald dudes really had it good back then, all men wore hats.

You'd only be a disappointment when you got her to the restaurant

Also think this was still before people bathed regularly and or had deodorant. Never mind the horses the stench of the people alone ...... would be unbearable today.

lol but if you think about, you didn't know any better back than. I'm sure they felt they were living the most comfortable in years. Compared to what it was in the 1800's and 1700's. It's quite in an improvement I would think.

It's cool, but why would they add seemingly random sounds. Kind of stupid to do that.

Also, how do you know it's the middle of summer? I didn't see anything that mentioned that, but might have missed as I haven't woken up yet...

I caught all these videos a few months ago & went deep diving into this shit. these are the people that built my home here in NY. it depresses the shit out of me knowing they're all gone.

there's a reoccurring character in these videos too - this dude with a cane & one leg. this is when NY was made.

Civil war era music was good.

Hospitals kill more people now, but overall more people are probably saved.

You could make your own justice back then. If some weirdo ghoul (boy or girl) passive aggressively tried to give you shit at work, or on the street, it wouldn't fly. They would look nuts, and you could eventually pop them if they treated you like poorly. Men (and women) were respective of other men in a far better way than today. There were still lawyers and Jury trials then. Police lord over people now probably worse than then.

Workers rights were about to start. The furnace was churning. Most everybody was still farming, so these people were really doing something different just being there.

Some cars, and people walk in NY now anyway. More horses.

Movies suck now. They had plays.

Wars are always coming and screwing things up. Now they are more economic, which seems better, but we will see. The great depression was 20 years away from this clip. A lot changes in 20 years. The 20's were a great time in American history.

It wasn't a paradise... But grown up decisions were being made by grown-ups and at least we weren't acting like ghouls and garbage as much.

I've seen bad plays, so I guess I can agree. I think a really well done play with great singing and large scale set-design is pretty solid, however.

I’d go back in time but wouldn’t wanna live in that era .. they didn’t know any better and I bet living in NYC was a lot better than the sticks ... more to do anyways .

Every time I think about going back in time all I can think of is how bad people probably smelled .. that’s why I don’t time travel
