Rewatch 17 years ago, Hong Man Choi had Fedor scared

I believe there was even special rules like HMC couldn't knee or something too, don't think any other Fedor fight had rules like that

People always shit on HMC for being one-dimensional when the truth is he was a legendary Ssireum wrestler in Korea. Not sure how well that translated to MMA, but you can see Fedor struggle to take him down.

Choi would destroy Feeder in a rematch.

I’m pretty sure the Yaranoka! org was using Pride rules, where if there’s a significant weight advantage knees to the head were disallowed. I believe Vitor/Heath Herring had that rule in place when they fought at heavyweight in Pride, just as an example.

Another one was the Nogueira vs. Sapp fight, where PRIDE rules were modified. Nogueira was significantly smaller than Sapp and requested a special rule to ban knee strikes to the head of a grounded opponent. This was done due to the large size disparity and to protect Nogueira from Sapp's power.

Didnt know that...that changes things in retrospect maybe HMC could have been the guy to dethrone Fedor but it was a safety thing for these freakshow fights.

Still remembering the time when Fedor was seen an unstoppable machine, never be times like those.

Because the weight disparity was over 100 lbs. It was probably something, even the japanese couldnt do with whatever semblance of athletic comissions they had there.

HMC was never in a position to throw 4 point knees anyway

Because he's 7 feet tall?

I read about this in DUH magazine.
