That seems like a pretty good deal to eradicate poverty and dysfunction.Turns out getting $12,000 would cost me $15,000 in additional taxes. Foiled again!
Really? How does that workout? Did it move you to another bracket?
Yang is great. Tulsi is better.
So I just gotta get on a mailing list and I can get free cash? Count me in.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fascismI like the UBI concept. As someone once said, under communism people have money with nothing to buy. Under capitalism, there is plenty to buy, but too many of the people don't have the money.
UBI would help with the second problem, which is a nicer problem to have and easier to solve than the first problem. The world is going more and more to ultra low, or negative interest rates. This shows the drastic mismatch between savings versus people willing to invest. A few institutions sitting on giant stockpiles of cash that they can't invest. We cann still print money and throw it into the system, but inflation has been low despite massive amounts of money being printed because the money is hardly going anywhere. It's one thing to print a trillion dollars and have someone stuff it under their bed, than priniing a trillion and having people go out and spend it.
People thinking everyone is gonna quit work if they get UBI is a scare tactic. Yang has laid out how he's going to pay for it. Basically all the technological advancements that in theory should have alllowed peple to improve their lives but instead have just funnelled benefits to Bezos, Gates and a few others are going to be evened out more.
Yang has laid out how he's going to pay for it.
Except his numbers don't possibly add up.
His UBI idea would pay out over 2.5 Trillion a year
The US government took in 3.3 trillion from personal income taxes, corporate taxes, tarrifs, and every other source combined. It's literally looking to increase the entirety spending of the government by 75%
He thinks magical 10% value added tax and budget cuts would cover it. It's like letting a 6 year old come up with his parents monthly budget to afford a new luxury car.
$1000 a month?
That would have been enough to live on before WW2 maybe.
On topic, has he given out any of the money yet? Or is he still waiting to declare any winners so that more people join his email chain?
Lol if there's fine print of him only paying out if he wins the dem nomination
No added money into the economy. Tech driving costs down. There will probably be a slight uptick in non essential items as those industries pass along the 10% vat.In my overly simplistic view any form of UBI will lead to inflation, and a small but significant number of people leaving the job market.
One thing about UBI that doesn't get discussed enough is that cost of living varies wildly depending on location. I could easily live on 1,000 a month if I took my current savings and moved out in the boonies. There are homes out there for less than 50,000 in rural Louisiana. However, try doing that anywhere in a mid sized or greater city if you don't already have your home paid for.
Money is flowing out. I met the family in New Hampshire receiving the $. It is really helping with their kid in college.
