Fight still on for Johnson pardon - Yahoo! News Fight still on for Johnson pardon By The Associated Press The Associated Press
I won't lie, It's a huge joke to me that he has not pardoned yet. Hm, I did not know Reid was a boxer; That's pretty cool.
The guy's dead. Anyone with a little bit of brainpower can figure out his so called crime is no biggie. I don't really care if a pardon comes or not. Interesting enough though that there are some fans out there holding this event.
Johnson, and even a washed up past his prime Jefferies, would dominate the pitiful thing known as the boxing heavyweight division nowadays.
About damn time this happened, either do it quick or don't do it instead of dragging it on for years.
no, it was his wife, the establishment was simply out to get him. although his wife was a prostitute, and if he pimped her maybe it could be loosely defined as what was charged.
This was an article I stumbled across several weeks ago, this thread reminded me of it, just an analysis of why Obama won't pardon Johnson Why Obama Won't Pardon Jack Johnson - Friendly Fire
Heavyweights forum thread here comparing Biggest Fight in Boxing in 1910 (Johnson/Jeffries) with Biggest Fight in UFC history in 2010 (Lesnar/Carwin), 100 years later. http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f2/whoa-100-years-ago-boxers-paid-100-000-what-about-carwins-40-k-ufc-1270089/ Jack Johnson was paid 120 thousand for the main event in 1910 at a time when the average American made 750 dollars per year. Jeffries also was paid over a 100 grand. In contrast, Sugar Shane Carwin was paid 40 K for the huge UFC main event a 100 years later. $h!t's comical...and sad. Converting Johnson's purse to today's money works out to anywhere between 2.3 million and 7 million for the fight depending which method you use.
At least Jeffries could point out he was 35 and retired for 6 years when he got into the ring with Johnson...
