Yeah but those don't all have the additional creative and awesome virtue of being shitty sequels or terrible remakes.

I thought about that and had 'up' on my list, but it's almost a separate category for me.

Anime film, the setting is exotic with links to Shinto but mostly a not too hard to follow children's adventure film.

I would say the early 00's was really the tail end of the era of classic anime cinema that started in the late 80's.

That one really caught me by surprise. Cronenberg was moving away from sci-fi/body horror at the time, and that was kind of his last film in the style, although more sci-fi than horror compared to his earlier works.

Might still be my all time favorite ending to a movie.

Was the chariot race cool at least?
hahaha I considered putting the Room as an honorable mention as the most hilarious movie of the last 20 years.

It happens near the end and by that point I was pretty checked out of the movie. Visually it was cool I guess, but I absolutely did not give a shit about any of the characters so it felt pointless.

It's actually awesome. Super weird and interesting Studio Ghibli movie. They did Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle, which are both great. Spirited Away is arguably the best though. Super creepy at times.
