what would you think of a 1 point deduction for missing weight?
It seems fair to me.
- In a 3 round fight you would need to win all 3 rounds on 2 judges cards to get the win.
- 29/28 win becomes 28/28 draw taking away a win and the win bonus and gives a huge incentive to finish.
- gives the fighter who actually made weight a better chance of getting their win bonus or at least getting the tie rather than a loss on their record against a larger opponent.
The only downside I could see is fighters pulling out or faking an injury but if they don't fight they don't get paid and it would be fairly obvious due to the last minute timing*
(*at this period less than 36 hours from the fight they shouldn't be doing anything particularly dangerous to cause injury anyway, even though we have heard about a few odd last minute cuts, KOs from slipping and other bizarre shit, which would probably increase slightly with the point deduction)
If a fighter didn't even make weight, didn't hold up his/her end of the agreement to show up the same size for a fair fight, why should the scoring NOT reflect the unfair advantage?
PrideFC gave smaller fighters a benefit which was written into their scoring criteria, it makes sense that there should be some repercussion beyond the fine otherwise the fighter who breaks the rules is actually given a reward for their bad behavior.
This will probably get lost in a sea of Ronda threads... If it does, oh well... Happy new year!
Curious what you guys and gals think of the idea
