This is quite possibly the best part of the future of 3d printers. The bulk of the material that is required can be grown and refined on a simple farm.
 
No, you can print an entire gun. Quite an effective one actually. Not that its in any way relevant, it was always going to happen. People will just have to get used to the idea that you can't stop people from getting guns in the future. All the laws in the world won't prevent it.
You're right, I was reading a story earlier about a company who was able to print 15/16 required parts for a firearm and only needed a simple nail to act as the firing pin. The government forced them to take the blueprints offline but not before they were downloaded over 100k times.
