China is often described as state capitalist. But that's probably incorrect. China is just a mix of socialism and capitalism, like every other country on the planet. Some countries just have more socialist policies (e.g. Europe), while others more capitalist ones (e.g. the US).

Or do people try to make China communist for not being democratic? Like the "communist" states of Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia?

Of course not. The US is fighting against democracy in Afghanistan in order to keep one of the most corrupt governments in power. The US doesn't love government in Kabul, but they know what they have. A democratically elected government might start to do business with China and Russia. Then 20 years of war and millions of dead Afghans would have been for nothing. (The US is not alone fighting against democracy in Afghanistan. But the others do it primarily to earn the US's good grace.)

At least Trump was smart enough to hate China for being a successful capitalist state. Too successful, that is. E.g. Huawei's dominance in the telecommunication industry. Trump proposed that the US should buy Ericson in response. But it somehow would have been communism is China had been the one proposing that.
