Yahoo sports - UFC discredits the sport.

Plenty of professional sports teams have released guys who were attitude problems or otherwise undesirable in the organization.

The problem with second rate pretend journalists like Napoli is that they don't properly economize the data they have.

The UFC directly employs the fighters. The NFL does not. They are signed by the teams. Look at Terrell Owens. He's been dumped by three different teams. Did other teams sign him? Of course. He had talent and could be an option to them.

But are the Philadelphia Eagles not a legitimate sports organization because they let T.O. go? Of course they're legitimate. They just made a decision based on what was best for their business. There are plenty of other teams out there for Okami to play for.

It's ok, It's ok. Kevin Iole will be around to kiss some ass after Dana threatens Yahoo sports' press credentials.

>UFC Cuts Okami, Discredits Own Ranking System

So UFC MUST rehire someone if they are ranked? That would be a great deal. Get ranked #10 and demand a billion dollars a fight. Then if the UFC won't pay, they just discredited their rating system.

UFC is a business. MMA is a sport.

This is not completely true.
No legitimate professional sports league would release top talent because they weren't marketable

It happens often in Formula 1. Now, not entirely due to the marketing aspect, but in F1, drivers who have more international pull and sponsorship monies are often chosen over the better driver. And Formula 1 is one of the largest, maybe second to only soccer, sports in the world. I should point out that some teams require big sponsors because it can cost $500 million to operate a Formula 1 team. Still, in the name of sport, they don't necessarily employ the best of the best.

Having said that, the UFC really is dipping into entertainment and for die hard fans it's becoming difficult to watch. We're not 13 years old. We don't want WWE controversy and bullshit. We want the best fighting the best. Period. The UFC built MMA as a legitimate sport and now they're turning it into a joke.

Yahoo journalists are 'f**king idiots' Dana has been doing this for 13 years and these guys think they're experts.

All journalist's tend to think that they are experts, when many of them come off as know nothings. This Yahoo yahoo falls somewhere in between.

hey, are you questioning the credibility of a shift supervisor at rite aid?

They should call themselves the UFE Ultimate fighting Entertainment, you know like the WWE, heheheh.

I don't see why cutting Okami discredits the sport. Guys get cut from sports all the time for different reasons. It's not like being cut from the UFC is going to make Okami homeless.

I would consider yahoo more legit if they didn't have credentials as I know there opinion wasn't basically being bought off!

Ridiculous counter point.

What has happened here isnt akin to a team releasing a player.

Its akin to the NFL releasing the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kindly take your own advice, and stop posting absolute bullshit as commentary.

The world of sport has been around a lot longer and is a lot bigger than the UFC, and Dana just showed that whole world his ass.

I can see you are happy to join him as a laughing stock.

Funny you guys accuse people of being Zuffa Zombies, when you guys buy the UFC = MMA koolaid. So what if they don't resign Okami? He can still compete in MMA as much as he wants.

Lol the irony here. He's making an ultra-exaggerated fuss about what was ultimately an understandable business decision (his analogy to a football team is actually quite apt, and he doesn't even bother to distinguish that situation from this one, he just blindly dismisses it, and it's tragic for his argument).

Here's the irony: journalists make these stories more exaggerated to get more readers. The "best writer" or "the most accurate journalist" isn't the guy who gets jobs; it's the guy who can write articles that get reactions, like this guy does. So the very "entertainment/marketability first" attitude that he's decrying here is the very same impetus that led his to make such a hyperbolic fuss about this non-event story.

again, players get cut for business reasons all the time. the eagles are a fuckin franchise. they are the owners. the "nfl" represents THEM.

Sorry, but your point of view is retarded in any way you see it.

Yes, a team can fire up a talented guy if he is a problem for the team.
but a League (which is what the UFC pretends to be) cannot setup the championship based only on viewers and revenue.

Imagine if the NBA would cut NJ Nets, or the Spurs because "they are boring" or do not have enough fans!

The Playoffs would be only between Lakers and Celtics because of their history and grudge!
Maybe the semi-finals would also sport Miami Heat & Cleveland Cavaliers because of LeBron James.

Exactly. the NBA doesn't take "boring teams" away.

Neither does the Swimming team or soccer team. (mexico beat Brazil on the finals at Olympics... heck! if this was the UFC, the finals would be Spain against Brazil!!! And I can hear Dana saying "what??? They also speak spannish you idiots!!!")

SMH

Good insight. I hadn't thought of it like this. I will no longer complain about any cuts. Not even Fitch.

Srs. No sarcasm.

Okami lost his last fight and is not even close to a titleshot.

sports leagues don't release talent. sports teams do. and of course sports teams release guys all the time who they feel are not worth their pricetag.

they never once even suggested the rankings would be something to "adhere to" when making decisions.

Very much THIS

It was still a good read though, but UFC runs differently than MLB, NFL, etc

If Peyton Manning can get cut, Yushin Okami can definitely be cut too.
