Wow. Rashad is only 38 years old. Woodley?

Damn......

Is it possible we see a sharp decline in twoods explosiveness this year?

36 years of age... rashad only 38

Or is woodley good at hiding it with only throwing the overhand right once per round and and always threatening the takedown?

One of the reasons Rashad was great was his coaching. Greg Jackson literally made Rashad with his gameplans.

Plus, it didin't hurt that Rashad's teammate and friend (Keith Jardine) fought a lot of Rashad's opponents a fight or two before Rashad did. It honestly felt like they used Keith as a crash test dummy to help Rashad win.

After Rashad got butthurt and left Jackson's he did basically nothing.

Besides the fact that people age differently, I think leaving Jackson derailed Shads career and he never found it again. Also, as dangerous as the Condit, Wonderboys are, they aren’t taking shots from guys like Chuck, Rampage and Jon.

Rashad peaked quickly then nosedived

Yea, but he also got by on a couple things...quickness and stealing rounds with surprise TD’s.
When either of those was neutralized, we either got a stinker of a fight or Rashad lost.

woodley doesn't have near the mileage on his body that rashad has. rashad also has 5 more years of MMA fighting. rashad also didn't have the luxury of being the bigger fighter in most of his fight like woodley has been. rashad relied on explosiveness and speed and athleticism. without those, rashad is an average fighter. for a good while, rashad was a top 5 LHW in the world. those days are gone.

woodley won't be at the top of the WW division for long. good for him for getting the WW strap, that's a huge accomplishment, but he won't be champ for too much longer. if he stays inactive the UFC will strip him. he can't hide forever.

Machida was truly his kryptonite. Both were fast, but Machida had better, more technical and unorthodox striking. He also had better and more efficient footwork than Rashad's "fast foot shuffle." Because of Machida's TDD at the time, Rashad didn't even attempt at TD.

The secret is in not fighting.

If you can turn all your fights in jogging matches it makes things easier on the body.

Rashad used to not fight as much by exclusively wrestling and holding his opponents.

Woodley saw him and said fuck that, i can do better, and completely stopped fighting.

With this rate, he can continue being champ till he's 50.

I bet his training consists of 10 people chasing him around the octagon and him slipping away.
pretty sure wonderboy was the one to nearly get ko'd and not the other way around. he explodes when he sees an opportunity. that's his style. sort of like romero but a lot more conservative since he is the champ.

Once a wrestler gets a one punch KO, they often think they are legit strikers. Then they try to stand with real strikers and get KTFO.

Happens all the time.

....Rashad suffered something like three successive knee injuries. Context seems to be eluding you

1 opening in 5 rounds ?

Also, don't insult Romero. That dude is a killer that sends people to la la land, at the young age of 41.

Woodley will stay pretty strong until he loses his title. Then you will see a nosedive afterwards. Rashad's decline was that he lost his title and was already satisfied that he was champion.

Every fighter is different. You have guys like Cro Cop still killing it in his 40's.

Everyone ages differently.

It's so strange that so many people still don't grasp this concept. I mean there's people who die of natural causes at 50 and other who live to be over 100. But in MMA if one fighter's doing well at 40 it's impossible for another to decline at 35.
Stop talking logic. Everyone has to be the same like robots.

All due hespect to Hashard, he was booked well and over achieved.

In his later career he was booked very well and under achieved. Lil Nog, Hendo, Sonnen, Bader, Glover, Kelly, Alvey...

Besides maybe Bader and Alvey, these guys have holes a guy like Reshard should have exposed. Most of these guys are slow. These are great match-ups for Evans imo.

Condit fell off the side of the Earth basically
