Will we ever see another Anderson Silva?

Anderson is one of a kind.

How many fighters considered all time greats have been outclassed by fighters like 4-7 Takase and Chonan during their primes?

That's just unique.

There will never be another Anderson Silva.

The GOAT is once in a lifetime. Conor is a great striker though and although he may never reach Anderson's level, he'll be the closest.

What a troll.

His losses early in his career doesn't take away from his legacy. Using PED:s does, though.

He's was great and his run was the 3rd greatest ever... but he lacked TDD and Fedor Emelienenko has the greatest run of all time

That may be, but Anderson's fight style was unique, and that kind of old-school vale tudo skill set (finish fights by strikes or sub, to hell with winning rounds via Unified Rules) will go extinct in the future.
Lots of young fighters will emulate the styles of Fedor, GSP, Aldo, MM, and Kevin Lee. Their styles are much better suited to the Unified Rules.

Well the 2nd Conor McGregor has just been born so I'm sure there are other Anderson Silvas about although I doubt they'll lose to a flying heel hook.

What was Anderson when he got to the UFC 17-4, so who knows there could be lots of them about.

They were not early in his career. He already had 6-7 years of MMA experiencie. He also had a nice win streak going on and was ranked #1.

Anderson lost in his prime to low tier fighters.

I'm sure there will be plenty more steroid cheats in the future.

Anderson was not an anomaly.

So in your view you can't improve after 6-7 years? 13 matches is not a lot. Compare that to boxers who usually have like 50 amateur matches before they even turn pro.

GSP lost to fucking Matt Serra, fighters improve over time.

Agreed with all that except fedor wrecked fools and finished them with more aggression... he wasn't trying to win on points either

That's a newbie argument. Boxing is an entire different world. 13 fights is a good amount of experiencie in MMA. Nogueira had 15 fights when he became the #1 HW, Fedor had 13 fights, Machida had 14 fights, Weidman had 9 fights, etc.

Anderson had 6-7 years of experiencia, 13 fights, was ranked #1 in the world, was in a 9 win streak, was 29-30 years old and had beaten the fighter some considered the #1 P4P.

That = prime.

Cheers.

Enough with the Fedor meme
<Fedor23>

In all honesty if fedor didn't exist Anderson would be the only goat contender who finished people consistently and brutally, so I can see why AS fans are sensitive on the subject

People peak at different times in their career. Do you honestly believe that he made no futher improvements after losing those fights? Takase would destroy any version of Silva?

Anderson had an awesome run, but his competition wasn't all that and a bag of chips. He had favorable matchups over and over (Maia, Cote, Leites) and had three squash matches at LHW (with respect to Forrest). Things go in cycles...division depth varies and so on. That long of a run at MW seems unlikely, but dominant champs will inevitably happen in some classes (eg MM, GSP, etc).

That's a vague argument. Improving your technique doesn't necessarily go in hand with your prime. Some fighters improve certain aspects of their games when they are already past their primes. Eg. Anderson had a much better TDD when he fought Weidman than when he fought Lutter, Marquardt, etc. but he was much closer to his prime in those earlier fights, as he was younger, more explosive, etc.

When Anderson lost to Takase and Chonan he had all the characteristics of a fighter who was in his prime: Age, skills, experiencie, momentum, status, etc.

The reason Anderson looked better in his UFC days compared to his Pride days was because of Unified Rules.

I don't know how anyone can hate on the Spider like he fought nobody but cans...yet he knocked out Trt Vitor and submitted Trt Hendo...but I guess that means nothing:rolleyes:

He did not fight TRT Vitor.

Yeah he could have been in his prime when it came to his age, but he got better on the ground when it came to submission defense and offense in the ufc
