Why The United States Is A Christian Nation:

Communism
Religion has been around lot longer and is more insidious because it appeals to a higher being to justify actions. Communism doesn't have the brainwashing power of religion.

*Note the above applies to some religions, not each and every single religion that exists and has existed.

An ideology doesn't have to appeal to a deity to be more insidious than one that doesn't.

Because the 1400's are the exact same thing as 2016.

Hitchens wasn't too bright sometimes. Not only that, I don't know anyone outside of Muslims who want their religious belief supersede their or others constitutional rights... Besides leftists.

Abortion was declared a constitutional right.... And its mainly opposed by religious groups.

Appeal to a supernatural power is more insidious because one is claiming divine priviledge and people are hardwired to lean towards spirituality and god. People believe in an afterlife and heaven as a coping mechanism and to give them hope, that is why using religion/god is more insidious.

There is a higher being in the religion of Communism, its "the workers/people". You see, great men like comrade Stalin were killing all those people in the name of "the people", this nebulous but just collective that somehow never included the victims of Communism. Because those victims were always the ruthless owners of capital, out to exploit "the workers" that men like comrade Stalin were fighting for.

But not a supernatural higher being, not divine and not a promise of a good life for eternity.

With religion/god (the Abrahamic god ) he is always watching you and judging you; there is no escape. With the Hindu concept of karma and caste, it is perpetual slavery and suffering for the masses, who are brainwashed to accept their suffering by promise of a better rebirth. No non divine/supernatural ideology can compete with the fear instilled by religion of what happens in the afterlife because the afterlife is eternal or can't be escaped.

Perhaps but it seems to me with Communism the replacement for Paradise is the egalitarian utopia, which is just around the corner behind a few more Five Year Plans.

Personally I don't think people are able to grasp the concept of eternity so as motivating as an eternal afterlife maybe I don't that the same kind of motivation can't be garnered with a different ideology.
