Why is GSP ducking his own division?

Maybe YOU would have been more impressed. But overall, there's nothing that GSP could have done at WW which would have added to his legacy in any significant way.

Instead, he won a belt in another weight class and is now angling for a belt in a third weight class.

Which, again, might not impress YOU, but it sure is going to make a long lasting impact on his legacy if he pulls it off.

Going up a weight class and beating the champion after being 4 years retired is impressive. Going down two weight classes and beating the champion not so much, esp when you get two instant title shots in a row. It kinda cheapens the belt.

Just wondering

Is it not obvious? It certainly is to GSP. Tyrone would maul him, Tyrones gifted decision legacy is already starting to look better than GSP's.

He’s attained legendary MMA status to this point and can cherry pick fights at his leisure.

With all the bullshit commercialism and prolonged title bouts, I’m glad he was willing to vacate 185 and let things move along. I say take the low-risk, high dollar fights and enjoy life.

That’s all good as long he’s not fucking up things for other fighters. 155 needs to be sorted out by Khabib, Conor, Ferguson, Dustin, Nate. We don’t need GSP wedging his big butt into the middle of the situation and holding up one of these fights from happening or holding/vacanting a belt if he wins.

Do you think that’s realistic at this point? I see maybe a super fight or two in the works later on, but a run against the top fighters at 155 seems far-fetched in a lot of ways.

GSP bearing Bisping after a 4 year layoff is impressive. And it would also be impressive if he could drop to 155 and beat Khabib or Conor.

I’m just saying it would be more impressive if he beat Woodley and defended the belt or even defended the MW belt rather than hopping around looking for the most winnable fight.

Doesn't matter, though. What matters is that if he pulls it off history will remember him as a three division champion. If he just settles back in at WW for a couple of fights, no one is going to give a shit in a few years.

gsp vs colby would be cool. who will wrestlefk who. murica vs canada

I would have been more impressed if he came back and beat Woodley. He left 170 with that Hendricks fight which looked really bad for him.
The Hendricks fight was close, and he became champ after GSP left. There’s literally nothing wrong with that.

GSP is one of the best ever, he doesn’t have to fight today’s WW’s or MW’s, while out of his prime, to prove that.

Because he manages his career much like Mayweather. Very very carefully.

He knew Bisping was a weak champion and absolutely beatable. He wouldn’t have challenged for the title if it was say, Yoel Romero.

I agree TS, he's the P4P GOAT by far

Woodley too big too strong too talented at wrestling could neutralize GSP's offense rendering him helpless.

The same reason he left the UFC for 4 years if he couldn't beat Hendricks he'd be dumb to think he'd beat someone like woodly.

So he ran from the UFC in 2013 before his stock dropped... Makes sense.

The real reason is his teammate Stephen Thompson is a top 3 WW and he doesn’t want to get in the way.

Pretty loyal if you ask me.
