They haven't had a HW champ in over a year. Why? There are enough name fighters for a 8 man tournament. Are they really waiting for Frank Mir to be available?

Tournaments are not ideal but in this case I think it would work ala the Strikeforce HW Grand Prix.

Fedor, Kongo, Nelson, Sergei, Lashley, Mitrione, Wren, Miankov...BOOM!

With good marketing, this will generate legit buzz and ratings.

The last big 8 man HW tournament was won by DC when he wasn't even in it wasn't it?
So it could be a great way for a random Bellator LHW to become their champion.

LHW? DC was a legit HW. DC was an alternate and got put in for Overeem who pulled out of the grand prix due to injury.

Exactly. The man should still be undefeated in my opinion. Lashley needs to work on his stand up and cardio but his wrestling is scary.

Really? So is Rockhold an underweight heavyweight because he's 6'3? Height has nothing to do with being in a weight class. You don't have to make height, you have to make weight. DC was a legit HW. Now he's a LHW. Deal with it.

If no one pulled out, DC wouldn't have an opportunity to win the SF grand prix.

    Also, you're fucking stupid.

Great poster. Barnett looks like a hidden alternate. Probably due to his 285th positive test having occured not too long before.

It's been longer than a year, Minakov was the last champ and hasn't fought in Bellator since beating Kongo in 2014. The only reason I can think is because they're hoping Minakov comes back to fight for them? A tournament would be pretty wicked, I got the Bellator heavyweights ranked 1. Kongo, 2. Lashley, 3. Mitrione, 4. Nelson I'd say thats a pretty clear top 4 at the moment and then you could add in the veterans like Fedor, Mir and Kharitonov or the younger fights like Tyrell Fortune, Justin Wren and Augusto Sakai. Lots of options here for Bellator's heavyweights, I don't know why its been on hold for so long.

    My theory:

When a fighter wins the belt typically the Org has to pay them more money. Heavyweights on average are already the highest paid so by not crowning one they keep their cost down.

Fans of heavyweights tend to just be fans of knockout size and power anyways and care less about the belts than other weight classes.

They couldn't afford to keep Minakov or Cole Konrad around after they won it all.

they should just pick 2 guys and make it for a title, Tournaments in the USA don't work. Fighters cant use PED's to heal up quickly and if you cant have two fights in one night at the end, whats the point, really?
