Your logic makes most champions paper champs.
even DC is more of a champ than Conor
Woodley is not a "paper champ" but an active defending champion who recently defended the belt against one the best BJJ fighters in the UFC in a tactical performance but of course the majority of the MMA community will be racist towards him again via hiding behind the let's spam sarcastic remarks on social media and Youtube videos of everything being racist in order to insult him more.
Some throw in actual racist remarks in there and try to slide it in as part of the sarcasm.
These dudes are hurt by their great white hopes losing. Hurt by Anderson/Franklin... Rashad and Rampage/Chuck and now Wonderboy/Woodley twice.
Shutting down Maia's BJJ ability with supreme TDD just made it even worse.
Clinging onto the only white hope who actually got a UD over Woodley in Rory MacDonald or reaching even further with the Nate Marquardt fight earlier in Woodley's career.
This is part of the racism that Woodley is talking about. Subtle and insidious, holding minorities to different and higher standards just so they can shit on.
Not conforming to racist stereotypes, like the Mandingo fighter or the "thug" or the over the top arrogant "baller" just to sell fights.
...which means he didn't.
He fought the top contenders and has beaten them. That alone makes him a good, true champ.
Now if only some other "champs" were on his level...we'd see a lot more good fight.
Most champs have lost to Nate the great and have a better fighter competing in another promotion?
i actually caught autism reading this post lmoa
LOL I'm sorry Woodley destroyed your great anglo hype, Wonderboy. Get over it.
Frank Shamrock never lost the belt when he left the UFC, therefore Jon Jones IS a paper champ.
The only thing Woodley destroyed lately was his chance to fight GSP when he had one of the most boring fights in MMA history with Maia.
And TW KTFO out Lawler who stole Rory's soul. So Rory never avenged that loss, was compeltely anhilated and TW destroyed the guy that stole Rory's soul.
Multiple wins (or hell even really close losses) against a variety of top fighters is more solid evidence of being top tier than looking great against lesser competition or even looking great against one or a couple of top fighters. Look great against 1 or 2 good opponents and you could just be a bad style matchup for them or even have caught them on an off day or gotten "lucky" in the worst case scenario (like Sokoudjou), having solid performances against multiple top opponents>>>
Woodley beating Maia, Wonderboy, Lawler, Condit and Gastellum and even having a close fight with Shields>>>(credibility wise) anyone who has fought a single proven top opponent (eg. Cody). He's shown he can fight against a variety of styles and adapt/not flounder except the one time against Rory, that's as legit as it gets short of dominating against all those styles.
You could argue Thompson won either fight I guess since it was close but Woodley is a legitimate champion who defends his belt regularly. Sure some of those fights aren't that exciting but Woodley shows up to work & gives contenders the chance to win the title. There aren't too many champions that do that these days and they want to play games to delay fighting in order to hold on to that belt.
Woodley already whipped that ass even though Gas came in 10 lbs heavy. Paper champ, my ass.
Can't agree. He is a boring fighter, but he has beaten the top of the ww division. The division is shallow and maybe Lawler will get another TS.
Woodley is legit.
Woodley is actually one of the more legit champs IMO.
1. So Stipe was a paper champ until he beat JDS?
2. I really don't see why Wonderboy would gotten the decision over Woodley, but I can see why some would score it a draw.
The first one was a clear draw.
3. GSP doesn't want to fight Woodley, while Woodley want to fight GSP.
4. So did Anderson. Nunes, Stipe, Holloway, Bisping and Conor all have unrevenged losses in they're weightclass.
I don't think you know what actual paper or a champ is let alone a paper champion to consider Tyrone a paper champ he's a lot of things to a lot of people, but paper champ ain't one.
