Why do you guys think Ben Askren retired without testing UFC waters?

Shitpost. No idea WTF you're talking about.

He didn't sign with the UFC because the UFC wouldn't sign him/didn't want him. It wasn't Askren's decision. The UFC already had GSP, Jon Fitch, etc. They had enough dominating wrestlers, and they weren't gaining popularity at that point in MMA's evolution. Dana wasn't about to bring in another one to smother everybody.

Askren would have smothered everybody.

I agree with everything you said except that last sentence. And the sad thing is we will never know where he truly stood among the best WW.
Undefeated or not, nobody outside of a few hardcore MMA fans have a clue who frickin' Ben Askren even is.

th
vs
th
is why he didn't come to the UFC. Different level of competition. They are aslo friends and train together.

Nope...

Askren ended his Bellator run in 2013 as did Woodley with Strikeforce. There is no way Askren "didn't" join the UFC because Woodley did the same year.

Hell Askren is currently competing at 185, they could have been in different weight classes.

Because he thought he was worth more than he was, and that an undefeated record outside of the UFC actually means something.

Well, in fairness, it does mean something. It means you're pretty good. It just doesn't mean you get to walk into Dana's office and start making demands, like you're a fucking superstar.

That’s not what happen your shillness

Okay, what exactly do you think the issue was between the two, if not them not being able to agree to terms? Terms that Askren had very little leverage in negotiating.

He probably didn't want any of the "Great" Reebok deal.

Agree on the first point. Askren is a hydrated 185lb weight class though. In the UFC or anywhere else he is still a 170lber.

The rejection was meant as an insult. nobody said anything about money, atleast not until Ben was exclusive to ONE and the whole “not my kinda guy” thing appeared petty to fans. They felt Bens allegedly boring style should be irrelevant when it comes to “the ultimate proving ground”. Dana White talked shit about Askren long before Ben became a free agent as well.

Dana met once with Ben and there was no contract offer. All Dana said out of that was “not my kinda guy” and there was no mention of money from either side.

Dana then said that Askren should fight for WSOF, a willing UFC feeder(and demotion from Bellator), to get better. Which revealed the motivation. To insult Ben and make Bellator seem like no more of a big league than any other promotion they scout prospects from..which is bullshit.

UFC was also at that time cutting top 10 WWs who they thought were boring but might win too many fights against guys they don’t find boring. Fitch and Shields. So, the guy Dana used to tweet ZzZ emojis about coming over(from Bellator) and likely dominating the majority of the WWs just on wrestling and control alone didn’t sound like too hot an idea..hence, the UFC ducked Ben Askren.

If Askren made any mistakes himself, it was that he acted like a shoo in(which he should’ve been) when he must’ve known how petty Dana White is in addition to the fact everybody already knew Dana didn’t like him.

The too much money bullshit is pure revision. Dana got killed online the day he ducked Askren for no other reason then “not my kinda guy”. Based on what we know, it was a pure duck.

Dana a couple months later, after Bens first ONE fight then started making it seem like Askren could’ve always been in the UFC but decided to go to ONE..which is garbage. Even then, negotiations or if there even was real negotiations weren’t mentioned. Only after being ducked by UFC and Bellator/Spike openly not wanting him to dominate their entertaining strikers any more..Ben then made a financially motivated decision to move to ONE rather than eat the insult of appearing in WSOF.

If we’re going to say he wanted too much money, I think it’s important to know “what’s too much”. Obviously if Dana expected 10/10 or else Funky is breaking his balls...that’s a duck. Also, it’s importantfor somebody, anybody to say that it had anything to do with it.

The verdict: UFC is guilty of ducking

That seems to mean a lot less than it used to. Robert Whittaker, Kelvin Gastelum and GSP have all proven otherwise....

Its been said 1000 times before but....

1. Askren was an unapologetic best damn wrestler at a time they cut Fitch and Shields.

2. Askren had insulted Dana plenty after Dana insulted Askren by saying he'd rather watch flies f*ck than watch him fight.

3. The other lawsuits lead to Bjorn putting out public statements at first about Ben being the best in the world at what he does and would remove their matching rights if they let him fight GSP. In turn put Dana in a bad spot that Bjorn is discussing it like some Bellator invasion to prove they have the real talent. So Dana fears Askren wins the match and Bjorn is able to run his mouth.

4. Askren gets Bjorn to remove his matching clause even without the GSP stipulation. Askren said Bjorn warned him he is losing his leverage if they remove the clause. Askren said he understands but was confident enough that he would be signed he tells him to do it anyways. Its why Ben has nothing but good things to say about Bjorn even though plenty of others don't.

5. He has said that money never came up in the meeting & dana has said it was due to 1 resume 2 not his kind of guy

6. Now Askren is at an age if decline because he isn't a PED cheat (my belief at least) so he doesn't want to go there to "prove himself". He won't fight T-Wood because they are friends but would fight GSP because it would equally prove his elite level to the casuals without going there and inevitably getting the JaCare and Yoel treatment where its impossible to earn a title shot.

7. He is very well off financially and unlike most fighters has multiple successful businesses in addition to a job for ONE. So why at nearly 34 would you go and try to prove yourself to a company that doesn't like you and will do you no favors. The fact he is willing to fight GSP shows he isn't scared. But he isn't going to waste his time either.

Second verdict: UFC ducked the Funky GOAT for fear of how good he could be, knowing if he ended up that good he would be a face of the Org that would have no problem standing up to Dana, and know that he can not only beat their beloved strikers he can make them look like complete scrub garbage.

This

Dana fears Askren.

They paid him more money to beat cans in Asia.

It sounds smart. I would do the same.

Dana wouldn't sign him thinking he won't make them any money?

:eek:o_O
Talk about a really high level wrestler and martial artist that never really fought the best.

(No hate for Ben)

What u guys think were his reasons to do so?

Probably Douglas Lima was his toughest opponent.

wasn't invited to swim in the pool
