Why do some people support Conor earning 100 million?

When your top stars are earning huge money you can attract the best potential athletes. Getting head trauma for a pretty decent payday probably isn’t worth it, but for a massive payday where you can live like a king? That’d be cool.

As an MMA fan I want the best fighters possible to appear for some high level showdowns.

Why would you want Conor (or any other fighter for the matter) to earn that kind of money? How does it benefit society? How does it benefit the sport? How does it benefit you personally?

I constantly read people here saying "Conor fought Floyd to earn 100 million dollars" as if it is a good thing, to excuse Conor ducking contenders and not defending for more than a year.

Having that kind of money is nothing but greed, but the worst thing is that his fans don't even get anything from it, they just support it for some reason, even though it's totally immoral and wrong from social perspective, not to mention that it destroys the sport.

It's not just Conor, it's the same thing with Floyd fans and other fans who support this type of fighters and their persona. For some reason they care more about how much money they make rather than the integrity of the sport. Then they openly excuse the ducking and cherry picking because it's "good business".

Success was never defined through money, only in the modern times. We don't remember the rich people from the middle ages, we remember the great kings and heroes. Or do you value Fugger family more than Eugen of Savoy? Your logic only exists for 100-200 years and hasn't produced a single notable civilization. It has nothing to do with human nature.
we remember the "great kings and heroes" because they were rich. middle age history made no attempt to remember any people who were not wealthy and powerful. lol

your analogy proves the opposing point of view lol

connor might be a little arrogant prick but he made it happen with his always entertaining fight style n trash talk(ofcourse u need some luck as well in life..right place right time etc).i wish all the fighters could make similar money but its never gonna happen.so am happy dat at least one of the mma guys hit the jackpot.cant hate dat.there are alot of people around the world who have his type of money but robbed n killed others for it.connor worked hard n his money is clean compared to some people, has no blood on it... if that makes any sense.so well done i say

I still can’t believe the UFC allowed him to box and make that amount of money. He was their biggest grossing star by far and they knew it was going to be a very long hiatus for him if he boxed. All I can think of is they must have been convinced he would sue them and ultimately win his freedom to box. Nothing else makes sense.

I'm an admitted hater, but not even I can hate a man making mad money...

I'm no Conor fan but to say I wouldn't do the exact same thing would be a lie. The man has a child to raise and like many of us he wants the best in life. Really can't fault him for that.

That said, I do want him to fight or vacate at this point.

Conor made a 100 mil without hurting a soul.

You can knock Conor for a ton things, but making a 100 mil was genius. Love him or hate him, that feat should be respected.

What kind of bullshit socialist thread is this.

100 million is capitalism. He negotiated that price in return for offering his service.

The more he earns, the more it raises the bar for other mma fighters to earn.

Because it's his. He earned it and it doesn't belong to anyone else but him

If they're willing to pay him that money, then he's worth it. The people paying him have obviously crunched the numbers and they see it as a wise investment. Stop being jealous of another man's success.

Want to complain about something? Tom Cruise makes hundreds of millions and gives a big chunk to Scientology. Go complain about that.

1. You are worth whatever the market is willing to pay for you. This is a hallmark of a democratic society.
2. Higher pay days = legitimisation of the sport in the eyes of budding athletes = more spectacular higher skill level fights in the long term.

Would people rather the promoters get more money instead of the fighters who risk their health and are the actual product?

I see people on here always complaining about how low fighter pay is and how they barely scrape by and need 2nd jobs. So now we complain when they make too much? I didn't care for the boxing match but why shouldn't we be happy for someone that bettered their life and the lives of their family? Conor has given us plenty of entertaining fights, press conferences, etc. I'm happy for the guy, I wish more fighters got paid well like top boxers do.

a fool and his money are soon parted
