Why do most people discredit Covington’s win over Maia?

Woodley looked more impressive against Maia, he dealt more damage by actually scoring a knockdown.

dropping someone > superficial cuts in terms of damage
I call BS. If he was so damaged from the knockdown woodley would’ve finished him. He didn’t even follow him to the ground to try. Final minute of the third round Colby following Maia to the ground because he sensed Maia ready to give up. Saved by the bell in my opinion. Maia could barely get up on his own.

I think Colby beats RDA but loses to Woodley. I think RDA has a much better chance against Woodley than he does.

A win is a win, but you're delusional if you think Colby looked good. He's going to get exposed at the top when he's not fighting 41 year old specialists

I don’t know man. I’d take Colby over RDA honestly. There’s a reason why RDA chose to fight Saffeidine for his WW debut when Colby was calling him out like crazy. He took the easier path to Lawler. You can’t tell me you think Tarec and Magny are better than Colby?

I think Colby made a name off an aging specialist and people are overestimating him.

And honestly RDA starches this kid. The Covington that fought Maia isn't top 10 material

You would think though if RDA was as confident as you are in him, he would’ve starched and shut up Colby by now. Especially to get revenge for the Brazilian people Colby insulted.

1) Colby made those comments after RDA debuted at WW
2) Would you rather fight Colby or Woodley and get a title?

If Colby is as good as he thinks he is I'm sure they will fight eventually. He has to fight eventually

It was a great win. Maia looked invincible before the Woodley fight and Woodley had to fight the most careful and boring fight ever to win a decision against Maia. Colby beat him convincingly.

The problem is that while a great win it's hard to imagine Colby beating a solid striker that he won't be able to take down.

I remember Colby campaigning hard when Rda announced he was moving up to WW, before he had a fight schedule against Tarec. I could be wrong though.

Because he fights like shit.

Rafael dos Anjos has definitely earned a shot in my opinion.

More than anyone else anyway.

I don’t believe Colby has earned himself a title shot. RDA hasn’t either. These two should’ve fought during Tyron’s layoff so he has no way to discredit the winner as the number one contender. Back to the topic.

Colby did not get “lit up” by Maia on the feet. Maia had his most success in the opening minute where he landed good strikes because Colby was pressuring him hard with basically zero respect for his power or takedown threat. Colby was actually taking the fight to Maia, something respectable that most of his opponents shy away from. He mentally and physically broke Maia who was fresh off a title shot. At the end of the third round Maia looked like he had been beaten and mugged in an alleyway and the referee was extremely close to stopping to the fight.

Dominating him in his home country after being showered by beer bottles, spit, and trash during his walkout makes the win even more impressive. Colby’s trash talk is forced and cringey. I don’t understand how that takes away from a great win against Maia. Discuss!

He beat Maia straight, just wasn't anything special. He stopped Maia's takedowns, and beat him on the feet. Many strikers with good TD can do that to Maia. Still hope he gets the title shot against Woodley.

I'll give Colby this. He beat up Maia way worse than Woodley did.

I remember when Maia was supposed to make BJJ in the UFC great again. Two defeats later and now people are acting like he's not a good win and that beating him is easy.

Maia was landing well against him. It wasn't that impressive
