Why do all the categories have a red-rectangular-boxed NEW next to them?

I'm NEW to Sherdog Forums...does it mean that all of these categories are new? Does it mean that there's a new post? Why not just remove that feature? Since every category has that box, it would be the same if every category didn't have that box.

Seems like a feature for forums that suck but sherdog has so much traffic that there's always something new being posted.

I read this thread earlier today and surfed to home page; indeed, all NEW but too, each subforum had posts time-stamped no older than minutes, hours or at latest today. New is relative to different visitors...don't mean to buck HI, but I think it has its merits the way it is.
