What was the flip for? Did he have some sort of goal in mind? It looked like he had a nice back mount and then flipped into bottom guard for no reason.

He literally took a dive.

Same reason he thought that spinning back fist on Silvs was a good idea.

So that fedor could proceed to smash him....and be his friend

Someone said he went for a surprise submission, weird ass high risk move though, he didn't seem to try to win all that much.

He was trying to get his hooks in, it was a legitimate technique he just fucked it up because he was dazed/fedor was ready

It’s a legit bjj technique to go from the turtle to back control. It was not executed right and they were already sweaty.

really shows the level of mma education on sherdog when nobody recognized what he was doing on here. only like 20% of posters seem to even understand what he attempted.

Chael said he was going to lose position anyway because he felt himself slipping off, so he figured he might as well try it.

His intention wasn’t to have Fedor end up in his guard. It wouldn’t have been a dumb move if he had the hooks in. If he had the hooks, he likely doesn’t doesn’t flip over and maintains back control. He was trying to be on bottom while maintaining back control.

^^This^^

Ya it's real easy to slip from that position once you get too high and it looks like that what's happened there. So Chael said he just tried to see if he could hook his chin and come over.
