Who would you consider to be the 'BEST' all around fighter in the UFC?

Cain is under rated in these discussions.

- Phenomenal grappling, controls everyone.
- cardio for years, pushes the pace like no one else in the division
- beat up JDS standing, and fucked up bigfoot twice, a fighter who has KO'd a K-1 champ
- really no holes in his game except maybe chin

Do you think JJ is only submissions? GSP's controls elite grapplers with his JJ.

Of course it's not just subs. But subbing a guy, actually finishing the fight with it, guarantees you a win in that fight, right? So Jones ability to finish fights via sub shows that his MMA bjj is very effective (offensively anyway). Jones has certainly also shown sloppiness a few times with posting his arm on the mat when he has top position. He did it multiple times against Vera before breaking Vera's face. Vera never took advantage and threatened the arm. Vitor did, and got a pretty tight armbar locked in.

I'm guessing that's something we won't see from Jones again. Jones also has controlled elite grapplers with his top position. And Jones does more damage from the top too.

The eye test tells me Jones is the better fighter right now, but it really is somewhat of a petty argument. Either guy could top the list right now.

Georges St-Pierre
then Jon Jones

GSP and Jones both have amazing stand up and great wrestling. Only difference is GSP's Jiu Jitsu is amazing and Jones' isn't.

how can you say that when bones has been submitting people left and right, while gsp couldn't even get hardy to tap? honestly curious, not trying to be provocative.

Cain Velasquez. He can stop you anywhere, take the fight anywhere, dudes a animal

Cain has been in position for chokes, key locks, arm bars , etc and flat out stays away. His stand up leaves him very open to get hit but he does hit hard. His wrestling and cardio is top notch. So for this thread ...Cain is not the answer.

Because even Jones himself has referenced his Jiu Jitsu to be his biggest weakness?
He doesn't have a great defensive Jiu Jitsu game yet and his opponents can change position from under him. JJ more defensive than offensive.

Machida's got the total package but in a different way.

Chris Weidman can take anybody down and submit them...aaaaaaand he just outstruck and KOd the greatest striker UFC may ever see. Plus his elbow on Munoz was gorgeous. Yeah...Weidman is deserving of being most well rounded but because he fights at 185 hell get no love.

Jon Jones easy.

If the UFC was a fighting game people would be crying for a patch to nerf Jones.

GSP and Jon Jones.

Don't know how people say Cain. Dude has rarely displayed and been tested with jiu jitsu.

Was thinking Weidman, but his striking isn't on the same level as GSP, Jones, Aldo, Cain.

Give him 3-4 more fights.

Aldo & Jones were the first that came to mind. Probably Aldo if you only had to choose one.

GSP. Jones is still green in the submission grappling department, as shown by Vitor.

Interesting.

GSP, Jones and Machida are IMO top 3 "most complete" fighters.

Hard to pick one over the other, but GSP is probably number 1.

Can't go wrong going with the safest fighter, GSP, you need to be pretty good at covering all your bases to control fights like he does. 2nd probably Jonny Jones after that, he's always learning, trying to grow physically, mentally and spiritually.
