where did the name come from?

Years back (and I could be remembering this wrong) there was an mma website called Whaledog.

I always thought sherdog was a branch off from that.

Jeff Sherwood was a mma reporter / articlist or some other profession and made this site. His fight finder thing was revolutionary and the site got bought I believe and he made a crap ton of money but lost rights over the site. New owners kept everything the way it is, and here we are.

I'm sure Sherdog is just a nickname friends called Sherwood.
