hahahahh no.
I've had/have it in 4-5 different spots/times, spanning 5-6 years of grappling/recently MMA training.
Draining works, sometimes. One time I got an ear drained, healed great, wore headgear next day to practice, no recurrence.
Got hit training for an MMA fight, got big. I mean HUGE. I went to get it drained, figuring that was all i needed to do. Unfortunately, this has been the ear that has taken the most cauli damage over my career. It got drained, but came back next day. Not grappling or anything.
It got really bad. I drained it on my own a couple times. I had to see an ENT specialist because it was getting ridiculous. He drained it, then SUTURED it.
Going by this pic:
He made an incision on the inside of the Helix, from about the position of Scaphae to right above the "Triangular Fossa". He drained the entire ear, which had filled up from that area up, and had begun to start going more towards the ear canal. He stitched that back together.
Then, he molded my ear back into a normal shape with two molding foams, or some other material. To keep these on and keep pressure, he sewed these together. THROUGH my ear. Yes, right now I have two yellow pads on either side of my ear sutured THROUGH my ear.
The ENT prescribed me a strong antibiotic (Levaquin, very broad range/strength) and painkiller (Percocet). I sort of laughed about the Percocet, thinking I wouldn't need it.
Oh fuck, when that local anasthesia wore off, you bet your ass I was hauling ass to the pharmacy. It isn't comfortable. I've become used to sleeping only on one side.
Cauli can be simple, or an ordeal. I had the latter.
