Who here has caught anything grappling?

In almost 13 years, I have only got ringworm a couple of times. I shower right after each practice with medicated soap, I think that helps alot.

I have caught a few young chicks tho, BECAUSE of grappling.

Eh, cauliflower ear (not really that bad thankfully) and I've gotten ringworm once.

I've got staph, folliculitis and ring worm before. My doctor has always helped me get back to 100%.

My wife was on my about this the other day. My first response, of course, was to tell her to be quiet and get me another beer, dammit, but in retrospect I see that she had my best interests in mind. I always shower and swim after grappling, but I'm planning to make sure the mats are cleaned beforehand as well. Any suggestions on good mat cleaners?

Bleach.

Once in high school wrestling I got ringworm, we had it run through our team that year. Other than that I have had nothing. It is important to shower using anti-bacterial soap after grappling and keep your clothes that you work out in clean too. The mats need to be cleaned daily with some sort of disinfectant (our HS wrestling coach had us use bleach.)

have had ringworm many times, since i started using jasons tea tree oil bodywash, have pitched a shutout of that shit...

never anything serious. some stupid bacteria pops up on my legs from time to time after tournaments, but I can usually kill it with anti-bacterial soap and ointment in a couple days.

never staph that I know of, no ringworm either...

cant u just pop it tho?

hahahahh no.

I've had/have it in 4-5 different spots/times, spanning 5-6 years of grappling/recently MMA training.

Draining works, sometimes. One time I got an ear drained, healed great, wore headgear next day to practice, no recurrence.

Got hit training for an MMA fight, got big. I mean HUGE. I went to get it drained, figuring that was all i needed to do. Unfortunately, this has been the ear that has taken the most cauli damage over my career. It got drained, but came back next day. Not grappling or anything.

It got really bad. I drained it on my own a couple times. I had to see an ENT specialist because it was getting ridiculous. He drained it, then SUTURED it.

He made an incision on the inside of the Helix, from about the position of Scaphae to right above the "Triangular Fossa". He drained the entire ear, which had filled up from that area up, and had begun to start going more towards the ear canal. He stitched that back together.

Then, he molded my ear back into a normal shape with two molding foams, or some other material. To keep these on and keep pressure, he sewed these together. THROUGH my ear. Yes, right now I have two yellow pads on either side of my ear sutured THROUGH my ear.

The ENT prescribed me a strong antibiotic (Levaquin, very broad range/strength) and painkiller (Percocet). I sort of laughed about the Percocet, thinking I wouldn't need it.

Oh fuck, when that local anasthesia wore off, you bet your ass I was hauling ass to the pharmacy. It isn't comfortable. I've become used to sleeping only on one side.

Cauli can be simple, or an ordeal. I had the latter.

Oh, and on top of that shit, I've had staph once, and a few incidences of ringworm.

Worst ringworm I ever had was a nearly golfball sized one on the side of my head. I couldn't grow hair for a month or two after that shit.

So to prevent cauliflower ear would it be worthwhile to invest in one of those funny ear helmet things you see around? They'd be allowed in most grappling tournaments right

I got a wart on my hand about a year after I started, but luckily that's been the only thing.

Got ringworm once, no big deal. There is a guy I train with who has a wart on his hand the size of a quarter though and Im scared shitless to roll with him. No way i want that thing rubbing on my face or near my mouth......

How the hell does he live with that thing? Mine was pea sized and it drove me crazy until I could get to the doctor to have it excavated.

He is, to put it mildly, a very unique individual. Nice guy, but definitely cut from a different mold. All I know is that if I had something on my hand like that Id be leaving the MMA gloves on.

lol some crazy shit, doesn't it bother you guys that you have to worry every time you get on the mat or enter a tournament? Some of this stuff is not too bad but the herpes is scary shit...

Just getting rid of my first case of ringworm. In all my years wrestling I didn't get anything. Less than one year BJJ and 1 case of the worm. Hopefully it is my last.

A guy I lived with 05/06 got Herpes from wrestling. At first the doctor thought it was shingles, but it turned out to be a special kind of herpes that wrestlers get a lot. The nurse thought he might have HIV until he told her that he hadn't had sex in three years.

But is this type of herpes the type that reoccurs or just a one time deal? Meaning do you have to take meds for life like Valtrex lol...

Come on, I've had the same surgery 3 times with the same antibiotics. My ears have had multiple fractures. But the surgery isn't as bad as you make it out to be. Each time I usually only take the percocet maybe once during the first day afterward. Just take a 5-7 days off then wear your headgear.
