Linda Ronstadt was the most talented female singer I've ever heard. Her range and versatility are amazing and she came from a day when the studio didn't correct every flaw like they do today.

No kidding. She had a face that needed an exorcist. I love her version of "Summertime" tho.

Great choice with Linda Ronstadt; she kinda reminded me of Carrie Fisher back in the day. They both had that luminous skin, and Rondstadt's voice was straight BUTTA.

Depends what you're looking for. Personally i can't stand the Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey style of singing.
The two i absolutely love are Bjork, who has a very powerful voice, and Karen Carpenter.

I like to make the case for Annie Lennox. She does not get talked about enough

I am sure she is classically trained for musical theatre. I think she can do opera. Her control is superb. I think it is better than Mariah. Mariah just screams like a banshee as she goes up and down in pitch.

Annie Lennox is basically everything Sinead O'Connor cannot be.

Ella takes it for me. Lovely tone, effortless technique and incredible musicality.

Her jazzing on the melodies is everything the modern warblers wish they were but aren't. She hits thr blue notes, they just waver to impress.

Karen carpenter has a lovely voice. I know I'm an old fogey but I miss her sort of singing - a natural, unaffected tone just hitting the notes without all the tricks. Beautiful and soothing.

So many female pop singers feel the need for vocal acrobatics and put on tones now for some reason.
